Newest Dreamcast user...!

Post by MrEco »

I never bought a Dreamcast before. It seems like a cool console that I would be interested in, but I have one big problem. I have no idea what games are on the Dreamcast. I already used the lists here on Racketboy to compile my own little list of games that look good, but I'm yearning for more. Could you please inform me of your own favourite Dreamcast games(That aren't already on the Racketboy lists) and/or point me in the direction of someone who can?

Thank you for your help(Unless you're a jerk and don't help).

Toy Commander is an absolutely incredible game that I could honestly recommend to anyone; an incredible level of detail and imagination come together to create an outstanding game. It'll keep you entertained for a long time, too; over 70 missions to complete. It's not a very well known title, but you should give it a chance, definitely.

Although I believe it's on the lists, the greatness of Rez cannot be stressed enough. Definitely a great game to buy or burn. Same thing for Cosmic Smash too, but to a lesser extent. Rayman 2 might fly under your radar around here, as well; Racket didn't include it in the Defining games lists because it was a port of an N64 game, meaning it would be a stretch to call it a game that defined the Dreamcast specifically. That said, it's an incredibly good game. MDK 2, Dead or Alive 2, Fur Fighters, Guilty Gear X, and Metropolis Street Racer are also essential games that weren't included because they didn't meet a certain criteria for the "Defining Games" feature despite being all-around fantastic games.

Check out his "Best Dreamcast Games for Today" feature as well, if you haven't already. It includes the likes of Grandia II, which I would also deem essential.

If you want, you could post which games you have and we could fill in the blanks for you.

Well, I don't own a Dreamcast yet. Or any games for it. I'm trying to round up a sizable amount of good looking games in order to warrant buying a Dreamcast.

The list of interesting looking games is as follows:

+ Grandia II (RPG's are always welcome)
+ Gauntlet Legends (I love me some hack n' slash Diablo-type games 8) )
+ Shenmue (Don't know what "genre" this is, but it looks amazing)
+ Sonic Adventure (A good 3D Sonic game. From what I hear)
+ Sonic Adventure 2 (See Sonic Adventure 2)
+ Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (Not normally a fan of Fighting games, but when something is this hugely popular, you can't really ignore it)
+ Bomberman Online (Bomberman = Epic. Fu***ng. Win! All the time)
+ Worms Armageddon (See Bomberman, but replace the word "Bomberman" with "Worms")
+ Worms World Party (See Worms Armageddon)
+ Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (Marvel = Win. Capcom + Marvel = Epic you get the idea)
+ Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (See Mvs.C2:NAoH)
+ Elemental Gimmick Gear (See Grandia II)
+ Outtrigger (Like Halo, but without all the suck)
+ Rez (See SF3:TS but replace the genre of "fighting game" with "rhythm game")

Also, I see Phantasy Star Online come up a lot. But isn't that an MMO? And didn't the servers get shutdown? So wouldn't buying it be a complete waste of money?

And yes, I did already read the "Best Dreamcast Games for Today" feature. :D

No Jet Set Radio? :o

And just so you're aware, basically the entire Dreamcast library can be downloaded and burned to CD-R, so there's no need to spend loads on ebay looking for games. Of course, you might prefer to own the real deal, but whatever I'm just sayin'.

I got my Dreamcast about a year ago and it is amazing. So far I have:

Shenmue
Shenmue II

Ikaruga
Jet Set Radio
Tokyo Bus Guide

Soul Calibur
Seaman
Crazy Taxi
Eighteen Wheeler

The ones in bold I definitely recommend. I haven't played enough of Seaman yet as my microphone only came the other day
