GameStop to cease selling/trading GBA, GCN. and PS2.

The current word from GS corporate office to our manager is that the company as a whole will cease dealing in GBA, GCN, and PS2 by the end of this year.

Here are the present timeframes for discontinuation:

GBA: Summer 09' with a date to be announced based on average summer sales.

Gamecube: Fall 09' with remaining stock cleared out by X-Mas.

PS2: December 1, 2009

I thought you guys might want to know so you can stock up on games you want while the selection and availibility is still good.

So what happens to that copy of Madden for PS2 that's still sitting on the shelf when December comes around?

If it's New then GS 'converts' it to Used by either gutting and stickering the game as Used, or simply stickering it as Used if it's already been gutted.

Used games will stay at the same price for a little while, the slowly be discounted up to 85% off like the Retro and GB were until all remaining inventory is gone.

Good to know. I'm glad I've been filling out my PS2 wish list already while the prices have been super low. I'll just have to pick up a final few things and finish off my collection before Game Stop quits selling them and suddenly all that's left is overpriced rarities.

I used to have a large collection myself, but sold it all off to get a Wii at launch, so I really need to get back to collecting some PS2 in light of this.

What bullshit. I understand that most PS3s cant play PS2 games, and the newest DS cant play GBA, but Wii can play all GCN titles perfectly. Why drop them? How about you educate the majority of the Wii owners who don't even realize their machines will play these games? Put that shit in your terrible ads, and watch your Gamecube shelves get a massive attention boost. Is it really too fucking complicated?

Actually our store has had little signs that say "Did you know your Wii can also play Gamecube games?" on the shelves for months now and we haven't seen an increase in sales at all. The main problem here is that the mainstream soccer moms that buy Wii's don't give a shit if it plays GCN games or not, and sadly they're the idiots who helped speed up the eventual Cube phase out.

I havent seen any such signs at mine, thats for sure. Also were they on the one lone gamecube shelf in the far back or were they all over the massive display of wii garbage?

They're displayed three per shelf, every other shelf on our new and used Wii section, and two are on our GCN section as well.
