This is probably true for Space Harrier in particular, but there are some games which are improved in consoles - if they can port the game accurately and offer something else for example (extra modes, better music, stuff like that).

this is so true. I personally much prefer the SMS port of Fantasy zone for example, although i love ALL the fantasy zone games.

isn't fantasy zone set in the same world as space harrier?

I recently played the "enhanced" PS2 version on the Sega Collection disc, and liked it a lot. As the Gamespy article points out, there's tons of ports of varying looks and controls, but the bottom line is that SH is a fantastic game. Play it however you can!
