Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Whatever IS the off-topic section. So, no to that.

You do a great job as mod Moz, and I agree you lock very few threads - so props for that.

Quite frequently, when someone starts a thread about politics, religion, etc. - or raises some controversial opinion - a member or two will interject with comments like "hey let's keep this to a discussion of games". I agree that in spirit the Whatever forum is OT from all the other forums listed, but most of the topics here are about games/gaming and not other aspects of life. Most of these game-related topics do indeed belong in this forum instead of in one of the other gaming-related forums, so that isn't a problem. But having a distinct and separate forum for non-gaming related posts would probably garner more discussion on some of these OT threads, without fear of censure or of breaching decorum.
Listen, I just don't want that workload. I'm also the mod who moves the most threads, as far as I can tell from the logs. Just keeping up with them in realtime is a headache. I can't imagine sorting through the backlog, even if its just a month's worth. And knowing me, it will bug me if I would stop at just a month. I'd feel compelled to do the entire thing.

I honestly don't have the energy for a topic like this, as we have a complete conspiracy nutjob on another forum I frequent. This is only one of the many topics in which he brings up all kinds of "hidden truths" that we have to shoot down.

Personally, I take the lazy-man's approach. I've not been affected by this, my family hasn't been affected, my friends haven't been affected. Thus, it's of zero-impact to me and I don't give a damn.

You really think saying things like that will change someone's mind? Even true activists make a "comfortable little box" to manage everything they choose to do, it just may contain more "tasks." We're all gonna die, we're all gonna be sad, we're all gonna get screwed over in the end by somebody else- why focus on it? Why do it here where you can watch somebody's response and then harp on their opinions without ACTUALLY DOING ANYTHING!? I can understand why the original poster wanted to spark a debate(not really, since he has offered no counterargument or unbiased statements) about the government, but it's really just a form of whining in the end. And then it turns into a pissing contest.

I'm surprised that people have said the Bush admin has made everything much worse than before- BEFORE WHAT, exactly? Before Clinton (remember ruby ridge?) Before Lincoln? Before Jackson? C'mon, we have not had it the worst of corruption and violence- I think people say that we have it the worst now just so they can manipulate others into believing a cause.

 Its pretty obvious from my post that I am not interested in changing his mind... just having a laugh.

And your talk about "ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING" is really as puzzling and seemingly hallow as the other generic posts that said the same thing. How do you know that we arent "ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING", genius? And furthermore, how does "ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING" make discussion moot?

Intelligent people like to talk about relevant topics such as this every once and a while. Its not whining... and nobody said it was the end of the world or anything. Its just another relevant topic, OBVIOUSLY (by the 5 pages here) worth discussing, (look at some of the other topics in this whatever section) so just discuss.

Oh well, we cant change the world so lets just try and forget about all the issues...??!! Nah, thats just silly.

AND if you don't think Bush (admin) did an ugly number on this country, then you are either delusional or as much of a moron as him.

There's a lot of idealist hippies here in Seattle, so it tends to desensitize you.

I can see how that might happen. One's surroundings tend to have a part in making you who you are at a given time. At least you aren't trying too hard and just doing what you do. I can respect that I guess and that is really how I am for the most part... I just find subjects like this (examples which are a direct reflection of a system that always can be improved) somewhat interesting and worth discussing at times... not all the time.

Afterall were all in the same sandbox and unfair oppression (not always this extreme) can befall any of us at any time. Its worth mentioning in the whatever section in my opinion. Im done.

The Ben Franklin quote is a good one, but here's my stance: The fact that our government allowed the Patriot Act to be propsed, deemed constitutional, and placed into action is living proof that America isn't the same country in spirit as we have all depended on. We are all citizens of the US, we pay our taxes, the government owes us our liberty. It was decided that all citizens of the US were to have our rights as long as we did our part and it was written into the constitution. It was decided that all future leaders of the US had to follow this agreement. The fact that our rights are no longer honored under the Patriot Act means only one logical thing: We are no longer citizens of the United States, and we no longer need to pay taxes and follow the law. Unfortunately, the government has guns and is willing to arrest or shoot anyone who refuses to "follow the rules." Under the Patriot Act, the United States is not our country. We can never get used to it, or else they'll keep changing the rules. If we just stop caring and got used to it, not just random suspected criminals would go missing, it could be a political enemy, a member of news media, or pop culture icons who don't "follow the rules."

If you take away our right to a jury trial, eventually other rights will disappear.
