Look, I'm 17 at the moment and I don't give two shits about the Patriot Act. The thing is that when I said "Get used to it" I meant that things like this have always happened, but the fact that it's one person and not a thousand is a good thing. Now why would this be a good thing? Well the fact still remains that 99.9% of all Americans do the right thing and never see the feds knocking on their door. So yeah it sucks that this kid's having a case of mistaken identity at the moment, but until they prove that he's innocent then I'm sorry but he's stuck where he is. Also, while I do hate the Pat. Act I know I don't have anything to fear from it as I have nothing to hide. So as I said before GET USED TO IT. It'll probably only be around until it expires and then you, I, and everyone else will forget all about it.

Wow Frost, the first response that doesnt appear to be from a complete moron. Thank you.

"but until they prove that he's innocent then I'm sorry but he's stuck where he is"

notice anything about this that seems to be in contrast with what this country was built on? Are you sure you arent 7?

You're only 17, so I'll let you off the hook a little bit, but things like this have NOT always happened. Things got worse in the Bush administration than they ever were before. A lot worse.

He shouldn't have to prove that he's innocent, you should be innocent until proven guilty. That's the way it's supposed to be.

99.9% of Americans do not do the right thing. You're too optimistic.

This is America where we have the right to assemble and protest. It is a democracy where the citizens are supposed to take an active part in their government. Why don't YOU get used to THAT. Of course, since you're not 18 yet, you have a little more time before you're even allowed to have much active involvement in politics, so you have a little time left to not care.

I know that everyone is to be treated innocent until proven guilty, but what I was trying to convey was that when the Pat Act, the Feds. and Homeland Security come into play a 'grey area' occurs in the system due to the protections and laws that were removed by the Bush administration. I'm not saying that it's right I'm saying that at the moment wether you like it or not this kid's sadly on his own.

Like I hinted at with my first post, some people take these kinds of topics way too close to heart. No one wins in this arguments. Let's stay civil.

Just because it's only a few people and not a ton doesn't make it not matter. This could happen to anyone, including yourself. Also, would you want the government listening to your phone conversations and reading your email 24/7? Don't worry, you have nothing to hide! Why should you care if your privacy is being violated? Hey how about everyone gets to have a cop in their house watching them all day. It's alright though, you have nothing to hide.

I'm not some naive kid, I'm trying to say that we've lessened unjust incarceration compared to the internment camps the US set up for the Japanese in WW2; also by " 99.9% of all Americans do the right thing" I mean't that the vast majority of the general US public isn't trying to blow me to hell and back.

Indeed, the way the founding fathers intended it to be. The entire reason the founding fathers gave us right to bear arms is to fight off an oppressive government in situations such as this, only problem is, their army is much bigger than the "peoples", and better prepared for war. Not that it would make much of a difference in this case, seeing as how the story i read about it said that the mother wouldn't allow her kids to be around guns. Trying to get used to anything in this country seems to be the common thought, but its the people who are willing to fight for what they think is right that really makes this country great, not communistic, fascist, socialist, or any of that bullshit. Take the war on drugs for example, for decades it has been "just say no!", now in the event of the economic downturn, we are seeing advocates for legalization of marijuana, with the hopes of it boosting the economy, in turn is looking more positive than ever that it will be legalized, and all of those who got used to it being illegal, are now going to either fight to make it stay illegal, or get used to it being legal.

Chill.

I don't advocate any of that, but you have to realize that unless you go out and do something (I'm assuming you're over 18 and can fully participate in the gov. i.e. voting, etc...) then things like this will still happen, however rarely (if ever) they do.
