I hate Big the Cat

Post by equalsign »

Alright. A couple weeks ago I picked up Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, have been playing through it for the first time, and am trying to get all the emblems. Right now I think I'm at 83 or 84 and have cleared all the stories except Gamma's (haven't started yet). This may be just a rant, but I have got to say that I can't think of many times I have enjoyed playing a video game less than I do right now trying to earn all of Big's emblems.

Why in the world do I need to catch a fish bigger than 2000g before I catch my stupid frog just to get an emblem?! The fishing is WAY boring. It's an uninteresting and passive affair at best. There just seems to be so little strategy beyond simply waiting it out and waggling the joystick to the other side when your line begins to strain. WHY PUT THIS IN A SONIC GAME?! Speed, fun, style, attitude, and interesting level design. NONE OF THESE ARE HERE.

He bears no relevance to the plot, and could have been removed without a problem. I feel as the the game as a whole would have been tremendously better without these idiotic and pace breaking segments. Damn you Big the Cat. Damn you.

I could not agree more. It took me so long to catch all those fish. I hate Big and I think the general opinion of him is a deep seated hatred.

I just hated everything that wasn't a Sonic level.

This is why I'm not big on collecting things in games. I just want to play a level and be done with it. I haven't even bothered to finish Mario 64. Going back and playing the same damn level 7 times just to get all the stars holds no appeal to me whatsoever.

Agreed. I loved the Sonic levels and beat them rather quickly. The rest of the game was a huge turn off and I just gave up on Big the Cat and the character with the big hammer (it's been about eight years since I've played, so I don't remember her name). I bet I played the first Sonic stage with the whale about three dozen times just to show people how great the DC graphics were.

its easy
don't do it
You don't get any achievements or anything really. I guess back in the day there was no multiplayer and to put stupid stuff like that was a way to get more bang for your buck. Everybody will be talking about who got that kind of fish and how awesome he is. Now a day its a hectic process. and it is.

Just skip over it, why do you want to do it? Thank god I went through all of them, with the cat it really got boring. I thought Knuckles and Tails campaign was good and different perspective of the game. I thought there should have been a lot more sonic though.

You've pretty much summed up my feelings for Sonic Adventure 1. It's full of fast, fun, pretty-looking levels where you run around as Sonic but with all the irrelevant exploring and crap I just couldn't maintain an interest.

Oh yeah, 'cause being forced to play the horrid Knuckles and Tails levels is SO much better.
