Galactic Attack (Saturn)

Post by arion »

Galactic attack also known as Layer Section was made by Taito and released by akklaim on the saturn in 1995 and frankly the only good thing Akklaim ever did was to publish arcade games for the saturn and a good job they did there otherwise i´d have never played Galactic Attack since it is a good shoot em up.

Now on to the gameplay. What sets this one apart from most other shooters is that you have your basic shooting and a laser to attack ground targets or in some cases enemies that are coming from the ground so getting used to the laser will make the game a whole lot easyer and will be essential in the later levels where getting a few enemies down before they get to attack will be vital to succes.

Succes is also largely based on getting power ups getting three red crystals will level up your attack or getting a yellow one will level it up instantly. Get your attack up level 5 and you are pretty much unstoppable and if you die you just loose one level of the attack instead of loosing everything. Powering up the laser not only makes it more powerful but also lets you target more enemies on the ground.

One good thing is that the difficulty level of galactic attack is actually beatable it´s challenging but it doesn´t frustrate. Some of the bosses might need few tries before you can beat them without loosing a life but given a little time it´s not to hard to learn the patterns for beating them.

Graphically it´s looks very good since i really like the 2d look of it. And the backgrounds simply look great.

Sounds are generally good and taito did a good job on making the explosions sound satysfying the music isn´t the best ever but some of the tunes fit very well and the boss music is well done.

I´d definetly recomend this game and since its largely unheard of getting a copy of it should be easy and cheap. Or just grab a iso of it here http://segasoluce.free.fr/SegaSoluce/iso/l-m/l-m.htm

I love the game. I bought it in a bundle and it was the highlight. Two players make this game even more fun, I have yet to beat it though.

PS. ReddMcknight has the same avatar as you, someone needs to change theirs so people don't get confused. :?
