Re: Games Acquired 2026

Post by Reprise »

I picked up a couple of "big hitters" this week. I bought Phantasy Star for the Master System and Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for the Xbox.

Outrun is complete and in excellent condition. Phantasy Star is unfortunately missing the manual. The difference between a complete copy and a boxed copy without the manual is just ridiculous though. When I first started getting into collecting for the Master System, Phantasy Star was one of the main games I wanted, but I am fine picking up a boxed copy and saving a bit of money by not aiming for a complete one.

Outrun 2006 is expensive, but the European copy is cheaper than the North American one I believe. I absolutely adore Outrun 2 and 2006 and have wanted the Xbox version of the latter for ages. I have the PS2 version already, but the Xbox one is definitely a touch better (it also has support for custom soundtracks).

Didn't the Japanese version support the FM Sound Unit add-on, allowing for better-sounding music?

A little late, but I have to brag about my Valentine’s Day present…Mega Man for the Game Gear!

My wife and I decided to send each other our eBay watched items this year rather than just getting candy, roses, etc. (Don’t worry. We still went to dinner.) I got her a piece of jewelry, and she got me the last game I needed for my Game Gear collection. Very excited to add this one, and if I pick up two more GB games, I’ll have just about every classic Mega Man game.

...nice pickups Reprise, I've been looking for a nice copy of Phantasy Star myself as well and I've had a great time with Outrun 2006.

...I got some pre-orders in February, but I also finally made it to a local-ish Retro Swap and found some nice Xbox additions for the collection. I also got a nice deal on a clean Zapper. I still need to get my NES top loaded modded, but I think this may be what finally kickstarts me jumping down the NES rabbit hole.

Thanks. I have been playing it on Switch lately, but always wanted to own the original version. It always annoyed me that I had Phantasy Star 2, 3 and 4 in my collection but not the original

I went into town yesterday and so had a look in one of the shops for games and came out with Cold Fear and Far Cry Instincts: Evolution for the Xbox and the House of the Dead 2 and 3 compilation for the Wii.

Annoyingly after I got home and looked up the Far Cry game, I found out that there's an enhanced HD port of both the first Instincts game and Evolution on the 360, which I had no idea about. If I had, I probably would have just bought the 360 game instead (and even more annoyingly when I checked the CeX website, the shop I was in had the 360 version in stock and it's cheaper than Evolution. Never mind).

Cold Fear looks interesting to me. I played some yesterday and graphically it looks incredible. It looks really impressive.

I have wanted the Wii ports of HOTD 2 and 3 for a while to scratch that light gun itch. I used to love playing HOTD2 on the Dreamcast with the light gun back in the day, but I no longer own the lightgun or a CRT.

Some great pick-ups posted recently!

Reprise, I'm glad you were able to add Phantasy Star to your collection. I finally played through it last year and really enjoyed it. I think it holds up well for the time it was released.

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is another good one. I went for the PS2 version of the game, and luckily that version is much less expensive than the Xbox release in the States. It took me some time to get used to the new mechanics, but overall, I liked it a lot as well.

Syndicate, that's a nice haul of games as well. I see Sea of Stars in there, which is something I've been meaning to pick up for too long. It looks like the iam8bit version there, which is what I'm looking for too. I've heard good things about Alpha Protocol, I'd like to try it out sometime.

Prfsnl, that's a great way to handle a gift exchange idea! I wish my fiancé used Ebay so we could do something similar. Lol.
