So... someone ported Sonic Mania to Dreamcast

Post by REPO Man »

I realize this might be old-ass news, but I'm genuinely blown away at how good this runs. I mean, it's not perfect, but still.

You can follow the dev's work over here.

Very cool, indeed.
I felt like it would be natural in a weird way to run on the Dreamcast.
I'm excited to watch the refinements continue!

I’ve tried it myself, and honestly, the port is surprisingly solid. There are a few minor graphical glitches and frame hiccups here and there, but the gameplay feels just like the original. It’s a great example of how well-optimized coding can make older hardware handle newer titles.

Yeah. It also makes me wonder if the Taxman versions of Sonic 1, 2 and CD can be ported. Since they're made with an earlier version of the same engine, I'd imagine it could happen. Hopefully, Sonic 3 AIR can also be ported.

That's awesome to hear! Any particular trends in where the glitches/hiccups are?

That would be amazing. The iOS ports on my Apple TV (with Bluetooth controller) are some of my favorite ways to play them now. A sonic 3&Knuckles port would be amazing (and I wish they would do a solid Sonic Mania on iOS too (aside from the Netflix thing :D )
