Oddly, that feels about right to me. I think I've finally made peace with my aging body and my aging hobby.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Saw the announcement about the updated version of Doom for the SNES. From what I understand, the cart has an additional chip to help with the graphics and frame rate. Also, there's an additional controller for the system that has rumble support. Never thought I'd see that on the SNES. Pretty interesting announcement!
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
That's a nice list of games, pierrot. Just wanted to chime in on El Dorado Gate 1-7. I saw recently that a fan translation is being worked on, which is pretty exciting. Fingers crossed that it gets completed. The graphic style for the game looks really nice as well.

Thanks! Had partly just wanted to get a list down I can reference later.
Yeah, I feel like I vaguely recall seeing something a while ago about people working on El Dorado Gate. It's kind of a wild curiosity to me, this epic series of Capcom RPGs that have never seen the light of day outside of Japanese Dreamcast, and I've had them all for a very long time now. Half of them are actually sealed, so I have to be ready to unwrap vol 1 to even get started.

Hmm, after taking a quick glance at screenshots and short summaries for some of the import games I'm not as familiar with, The Legend of Xanadu II (Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu II) looks pretty awesome. Have a feeling I'd enjoy it.
I don't think a fan translation is available just yet, but if the language barrier wasn't an issue, I'd go for that one!
It's interesting that Capcom decided to release El Dorado Gate in shorter episodes. I'm just curious, do you know if each release was priced less than a standard game at the time? Very cool you were able to track down each episode. The cover art on all the releases look nice, IMO.

That's a pretty solid choice, I think. I was kinda leaning toward something PCE-CD, so that would fit the bill. I really liked the first one (I feel like I remember hearing not long ago about a group working on translating that one), and the final dungeon was this heavenly, quintessential Dragon Slayer experience of a massive, dozens of floors long, beautifully elegant puzzle. It was truly the bee's knees.
The sequel beefs up the graphics considerably, but the gameplay's a little bit different, and it was made after Yoshio Kiya left Falcom, so it's not actually a Dragon Slayer game. Still, I've been more interested in giving it a try with my recent dabbling in the middle-era Falcom Ys games.

Had to look it up, but it seems like they were each 2,800 yen on release (around half the price of traditional releases) based on wikipedia.
Yeah, the cover art is kind of just different enough from FF due to the difference in art direction and character designs, but still unmistakably Yoshitaka Amano. Lot of doppelgangers hanging out on El Dorado Gate cover art.

Appreciate the background info on the game. I finally played through Ys Book I+II via emulation two summers ago and really enjoyed it. I'd like to check out some more of Falcom's games down the line, so that title on your list caught my attention.

Lol yeah, the art unmistakably has that early FF vibe. I'm not mad at it though! I thought the cover art of Lufia II had a very similar feeling as well, which drew me to that box back in the day. Interesting to know about the price of the releases as well, glad to hear they were discounted a bit from a standard retail release.

I know there are a few members here in the NY and tri-state area. Just curious, is anyone else planning to attend the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo this weekend? If so, let me know! Would be cool to meet up there.
