GIVE ME YOUR GAMING HOT TAKES
Re: GIVE ME YOUR GAMING HOT TAKES
Golden Axe sucks. That's my hot take.
Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360
Re: GIVE ME YOUR GAMING HOT TAKES
As much as I love the first Golden Axe, aspects of the gameplay could be kind of clunky. And Alien Storm actually feels quite similar in some ways even while being so different. It's a very hot take in terms of popular opinion, but when I really think about it rationally it doesn't feel nearly as hot a take.

And yet at tournaments I did just as well with the PS2 pad, while making it easier to play MvC2, ST, and CvS2.marurun wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 11:08 amWow, that is indeed quite a hot take.RobertAugustdeMeijer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:24 am Another hot-take:
The PS2 controller is better for fighting games than the Saturn controller.
D-pad is just as good. Shoulder buttons are easier to press simultaneously with face buttons.
When Guilty Gear X2 was released, I didn't even bother playing it with the Saturn pad: PS2 pad worked perfectly.
Re: GIVE ME YOUR GAMING HOT TAKES
cant lie i kind of agree on that.
the Saturn controller is still grate and feels good with fighters but i think the ps1/ps2 controllers is a bit more comfortable and has a better feeling d pad

Even with controller feel it often comes down to personal opinions. I consider it a hot take not because it's wrong, per se, just that it is indeed quite counter to the conventional wisdom, that's all. And I have a particular dislike for the PlayStation-style separated dpad.RobertAugustdeMeijer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 03, 2025 4:20 amAnd yet at tournaments I did just as well with the PS2 pad, while making it easier to play MvC2, ST, and CvS2.

I'm with you. It's my one grip with the Joycon 2 although it's completely logical why it's split into buttons in that case.marurun wrote: ↑Thu Jul 03, 2025 10:56 amEven with controller feel it often comes down to personal opinions. Deus Ex: Invisible War was lacklustre but still one of the best 3D games of that era.
Guilty Gear X2: Reload is still the best anime fighter.
The only good part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy was the first half of Prime 1.
Demon's Souls is better than BloodBorne because it's way weirder/jankier.
Starsiege: Tribes was what Halo wanted to be and is still better than any Halo game.
The first Western game to have good level design was Thief II.
World of Warcraft peaked with the open Beta and got worse with every patch.
Blast processing was a thing because Sega fanboys really wanted it to be a thing.
Castlevania II's esoteric nature and bad translation makes it better, if not one of the greatest games of all time.
Cruelty Squad is peak video game design. I'm not sure if it will ever be improved upon.
Playing the "bad guy" in TLoU: Part II is the best thing Naughty Dog has ever done.
Aladdin SNES is better than Genesis's because of gameplay, level design, bosses, length, hit boxes, and no enemies hitting you from off the screen.
Video games should be spelled as two words because that's what Nintendo Power did.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR GAMING HOT TAKES
The Wii with component cables on a CRT is superb! I'm not sure how many people know that since many had 720 and 1080 flat screens at the time.ElkinFencer10 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 23, 2025 4:02 pmI think the Wii's component output is leagues better than the PS2's component output.pierrot wrote: ↑Mon Jun 23, 2025 1:57 pmElkinFencer10 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 23, 2025 9:06 am My big thing is that the image quality is just shit. Composite feels damn near unplayable, and even through component cables, it feels blurrier than I think it should.
The phat PS2 in particular is some crap hardware mechanically speaking, but it's not like it would have been designed for a long lifetime, anyway. The video output on the PS2 in general is just a notch above the Wii's for sure. Going from looking at the Dreamcast's VGA output to the PS2's component usually feels like, 'wtf threw up on my screen,' to me.
My hot take: Save States for older games are acceptable (ie NES Everdrive).
