Recca is insane. Definitely one of the fastest shoot 'em ups I've ever played for ANY console. Seriously. I'm on the fence, though, about whether it offers the full package. Impressive visual effects, yes, but the graphics and colors seem rather minimalist overall. The musical score is also pretty lackluster, and the sound effects seem like something from the pre-NES 8-bit generation. Speed is cool, but the game plays so fast that I'll never even be able to figure out the power-up system without looking up a FAQ and pausing regularly during the game!
I run the 8/16-bit retro site TimeWarpGamer and if you want to follow the latest updates, check me out on Twitter.

@Flak,

Use Ootake instead of Magic Engine for your TG-16 emulation. ME has a better user interface but Ootake has better emulation overall, especially if you'll be playing any CD isos.

Um, have you seen what's already on the list? There are tons of great shooters out there, but only so many get into the top 10.

How far did you ever get in Zanac? I only rented it once as a child and it was hard to gauge which stage you were on, if it even had stages.

I think i made it to maybe stage 4, it was harder than heck. I only beat it with the game genie! But the music is some of my all time favorite.
