Do you have Surround? It is such a simple, fun two-player game. My 13-year-old son and I play it whenever we break out the Atari.

Surround can be fun with two players. In the early 80s, we saw it as a primitive version of the Tron lightcycle races. There's also a couple of "Video Graffiti" variations that let you leisurely decorate the screen. I don't condone it, but with those modes, one can write bad words and, for the truly wild, very blocky representations of private parts.

GOTY 1977

Also, Tron came out in 1982, and I always assumed that games like Surround were the basis for the light cycles.

EDIT: Sears sold Surround as “Chase,” making it more likely that Surroubd was the basis for the light cycle sequence.

I added a copy of Stampede to the collection. Pretty fun game.

It's actually getting more difficult to find 2600 games in what few stores remain these days. I either already have a copy of what's in stock or, if they have something obscure/desirable, it is obscenely expensive. This is all the more frustrating as Atari games are usually in a dusty cardboard box that's pushed in a corner or underneath some comic book boxes. Then I have to sift through 15 copies of Combat to see what else they have available. Even if I find a gem it'll be like $80 or some insane price. You cared enough to put a crazy price tag on it but I had to literally dig through the dregs to even find it?

I've notcied some of my local game shops have actually started selling 2600 game -- they used to not even bother. Unfortunately, prices are kinda lame now though. At least I feel like I got a decent selection and will probably just eBay for other gems I don't have over time (although, opa, sounds like you've got bigger goals than me)

There are always people selling carts on Atari Age. I got nearly all of my collection from there.

I don't really have an identified set of goals per se. This collection was pretty much started by chance. I never grew up with a 2600 but the games and systems were cheap and seemed fun to play. Most games I got for around 50 cents to two dollars each. It wasn't until fairly recently I got some from members here.

I guess I am a bit of a collector now though. It's my number one system by title count, anyway. Not sure I have an "end game" in mind and I don't have a "must buy" list. I just keep looking for interesting titles and getting rid of the ones that I don't like.

I also restore paddle controllers when I find them cheap, lol.

I'll have to check there at some point. Haven't been over there in years.

It's too bad mice and analog sticks and touch screens have made paddle controllers obsolete. They're a cool mechanical gimmick that really do contribute to the feel of certain types of games.

I bought a copy of Skiing. I have actually owned it before but my old copy quit working. It is nice to have again because it is a really challenging game to try to improve your best time.

I also made a mistake in picking up a copy of Video Pinball. I even checked my list of owned games prior to buying it thinking I didn't already own it. I had completely forgotten that some games have a Sears Telegames version and an Atari published version. In this case I already have Arcade Pinball, the Sears branded copy. Well now I have both. lol.

It was only a dollar so not a big deal, but still slightly frustrating since I don't need the same game.
