The physical games would go up in price. I’m using logic here but I don’t think digital game prices should go up.
Digital games still cost money to make and inflation affects that, too. It costs more to take advantage of better hardware. I would definitely expect an increase in digital costs as well.

I don’t know crap about tariffs and stuff. My only experience with the concept was when they started to tariff single malt scotch.

The physical games and digital games are going up in prices because of the cost of newer more demanding hardware and inflation, right? And from what I understand, the physical cartridges would additionally take on the added cost of manufacturing and tariff because they are made in Japan. That I understand.

I’m what I don’t understand is that since digital games are not going to take on that added cost of manufacturing, would they still be tariffed? Are intangible goods even tariffed?
I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!

I do think the increased games prices talk is overblown. I am using my own regional currency here and if it's different in the United States or elsewhere, I apologise, but only Mario Kart World is £75 here. It doesn't appear all games are that price. I preordered Donkey Kong for £65 and that's about standard price for games on the PS5. Some Switch 2 games are listed as low as £50 and £65 seems to be the top end. Some PS5 games are £70 (Death Stranding 2, for example). So not really any more expensive. Only Mario Kart World which seems to be the exception so far, much like TOTK was on Switch 1.

I expect the higher prices will be reserved for specific "big" titles, but we'll see.

Tears of the Kingdom for Switch 2 is as well, but those of us with it on Switch can just buy the cheap upgrade pack.

Digital products are not subject to tariffs as they are not technically "imported" in the traditional sense.

That one was Nintendo's first trial of charging more for games, wasn't it? I am not surprised they are keeping it high.

Speaking of it though, according to Eurogamer, a UK Nintendo rep has confirmed the physical Switch 2 versions of those Switch 1 games are actually just the original Switch 1 cartridges repackaged with a download code included for the upgrade. So it is going to be cheaper and will make more sense to just find the original games and buy the upgrade separately since there is no tangible difference outside of outer case.

It also makes the $80, at least for TotK, make more sense as the base game is $70 and the upgrade pack is going to be somewhere between $10 and $15 if the conversion of Japanese prices is to be believed.

More recent information has come out refuting that, though it might be a region-specific decision. Hopefully we'll get some additional clarity on that point soon.

I just saw, thanks. It could be region specific, but we should know either way soon.

Pre-orders now delayed in Canada just a day before launch. I really hope Nintendo are true to their word and don't actually delay the console itself in North America, but they really haven't got long to sort out preorders for you guys.

I managed to preorder one today. It's actually surprisingly not been too difficult here to get one, so hopefully it won't be for those of you in North America once they do go live. I did get one of those invites from Nintendo though (I also picked up a Gamecube controller).

Out of interest, I am not wanting to risk getting a warning for getting too political, but I have to ask: Do you guys in the United States not have any forms of checks or accountability? Your President is a bit of prick and probably should have been ousted by now. Well actually, he shouldn't have been allowed to run again, but that's another topic. We had a Prime Minister in the UK who also had batshit crazy economic policies who trashed our economy within 24 hours and she lasted 38 days before she was ousted.

Anyways, looking forward to playing Mario Kart World on 5th June.

I think we're going to have to pre-emptively table that conversation on the forums. If you want to address that, the Slack/Discord would be a better place to explore it.
