PSP 2003 Video out

Post by silverback »

Got a PSP 2003 model, got a Sony AV cable for it.

It displays UMD movies with no issues.

Howevr try and play a game and it comes up with the message that it needs an av cable and set to progressive scan and not interlaced.

Well it is an av cable and its set to progressive, changing it to interlaced just brings the same screen up I tried just to be sure.

Any ideas?

What kind of AV cable is it? If it's composite (one yellow wire) then it will only output 480i maximum, no matter what settings you put the PSP at.

yeah its composite, couldn't find any other cables for it when I searched.

But that will explain why it will play movies fine.

You are going to need something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PSP-2000-sim-lite ... 3:1|294:50

Have you got a EDTV/HDTV? If not you aren't going to be playing much PSP on the big screen. Not without workarounds anyway.

Yeah, you need component cables to play games on the TV, I have them myself. If you don't have a TV with component input, you can get an adapter I'm sure, just not sure about the price.

With CFW, there's software to play your PSP on your computer screen just using a USB cable but I wasn't able to get it to work. Maybe there's newer versions of it by now that work fine though.

Only the GBA emulator for the PSP displays games in interlaced mode. Even then its a pain in the ass to get it to display correctly. PSP games are progressive only. Its great to be able to play PSP games and emus on the big screen though. Its like having a plug and play system that plays 1000s of classic and current games.

yeah I saw the other cable son ebay after looking again, oh well.

yes got 2 HDTV's so thats not an issue.

I was very impressed with the quality of the UMD movie on the 42 inch plasma, ok not quite as good as sddvd trhrough the Elite at 1080p but pretty impressive for a small portable gaming system.

I may well get the HD lead later on but the PSP isn't used much.

If you install custom firmware, the uses for the PSP are endless. Its the best thing I've done with the PSP.

I'll second that quote. There's tons of stuff you can do. The biggest reason I got CFW on mine was to use emulators for system such as NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. Also, you can download PSP games and play the ISO off your memory stick. And I already mentioned the software that you can view PSP games on your PC screen using a USB cable.

I'm not huge on the whole PSP CFW scene, I'm sure other members can tell you more. Or you can give it a google.
