PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16

Post by All Hail The New Flesh »

I am thinking of getting a PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16. So I am just gotta ask the 2 magical questions "Which model should I get?" and "Which games should I get?"

Well, if you plan to get one or the other, get it to play the cards in it's native format, as they require rare adaptors and mods to work right. From what I know, it's best to get an american console if you want to only play the cards, as you only need an adaptor to play JPN games. If you get a JPN one, you will need an adaptor plus you will need to mod it. If you are buying to play Super CD-Rom^2 games, I'd suggest tracking down either a turbo duo or a turbo duo R. Turbo duo is the american CD+console hybrid, while the R is the japanese version I believe. Most likely whatever you do, you will have to pay far out the ass for it, so it is suggested by most just to purchase magic engine and play them on your computer. :?

The problem with the turboduo is that it over heats very easily, which is one of the reasons why there are so few of them.

If you're planning on getting into the Turbo Duo, the two games I can recommend without a doubt are Dracula X and Beyond Shadowgate. Dracula X is a Castlevania sequel and one of the best there is, while Beyond Shadowgate is the sequel to the NES game of the same name. They're both pretty rare though, so be ready to make a bit of an investment.

or just download them off the internet. I mean dracula X wasn't even sold here, so I see no reason to do it. Is beyond shadowgate a cd game?

For those wanting to play Dracula X for pc engine.

It's been ported to the PC along with Lords of Thunder.
