You're in New York...
Maybe they just have a really, really good parking space...

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
This sounds like something with history behind it. Like maybe some problematic treatment of borrowed cars or something.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I could understand that too, but it's not the case. They do have two vehicles, and it's later in the evening so they wont have work or errands or anything like that.

I mean, maybe when she was 18 she did a few things to cast doubt. But she's 36 now. Married, divorced, relocated to another state by herself, found good employment, has her own place... I do know some people that I could understand their parent not wanting them to drive their car, but she's not one of them. I could even understand back when we were young adults, if her parents didn't want her to take their car. But at this age, given the circumstances, it's just baffling to me. If I flew in and was staying with my parents, I couldn't imagine them not letting me borrow their car.

I'm thinking today's not the best day to speculate about what trouble she could have gotten in with a car that isn't hers...

You’re in a diner. 90% of the tables are open. You get seated. Then another party comes in, and they get seated at the table right next to yours.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I hate that crap so much. Sometimes you're lucky and they sit you one booth or table apart.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
It makes sense from the diner's perspective.
If 90% of the place is empty, they only keep one section open.

I can understand operating in only one section, but you can still seat people in every other booth when you have at least a dozen booths and a dozen tables in one section.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I've been use to the fact that "they don't make it as good as they use to." But usually I'm referring to something I bought decades ago, or something that was my parent's or grandparent's from many decades ago. It's no secret that things are NOT made as good anymore, but it never dawned on me that we haven't hit rock bottom yet. Apparently a cheap and simple drip pot coffee maker today isn't as good as one that I bought just 5 years ago. And by that I mean, my new drip pot coffee maker almost got a first class trip to my front lawn via a window that wasn't open.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I get the car thing, to be honest. I don't ask my parents for help with anything because it's not worth it. I've made the mistake of letting them pay for my college (though actually it was my grandparents money meant for me....) and it just gets held over my head in conversations constantly.
I work as a salesman and HAVE to drive for work. My parents wouldn't give me a car to work in for a day or two even though they were fine with me driving my mom to her dr appts in it when mine broke down. I don't even want to describe the argument I had to get in in last month to use their extra beater 3rd car while mine was in the shop. I'm 25 and have never been in an accident, and got two speeding tickets when I was like 18.
I'd rather not go out than bother asking my parents for something. Luckily I'll be graduating in December and I'll hopefully have close to six figures saved up to open my own store, already got significant progress on that. Honestly once that's set up I probably won't really speak to them often anymore.
Don't mean to overshare, but I just wanted to give an alternative, understanding view. I avoid spending time with my family during the holidays if at all possible and try to not go to any family gatherings. I don't want to ask them for anything so they won't ever ask me because I'm not helping either at this point.
