Post by Ack »

Hey folks, had some opportunities to read this year. I figured I'd share the final list with y'all for the year:

Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe, by Philip Plait
Count Zero, by William Gibson
Mona Lisa Overdrive, by William Gibson
The Spy Who Came In from the Cold, by John le Carré
Field of Dishonor, by David Weber
The Last Human, by Zack Jordan
Flag in Exile, by David Weber
We Have Always Lived in the Castle, by Shirley Jackson
Honor Among Enemies, by David Weber
The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco
City Come a-Walkin', by John Shirley
Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail, by Ray Dalio
Call for the Dead, by John le Carré
Beat to Quarters, by C. S. Forrester

How about y'all? Any great books in 2024?

Good for you, Ack! I want to read more books in 2025. And if my list ends up being half as long as your 2024 list, I'll be happy.

I was reading The Fellowship of the Ring earlier in the year. But it's a pretty long book. I got about 75% the way through but stopped. It would have been nice to have finished it before the end of 24, but I guess that ship sailed. Maybe I can at least get to finish it within a 12 month span. It's just been so long since I last read it. I found a site that recaps each chapter, so I'd like to read through the recaps until I get up to where I left off.

I unfortunately didn't read many books in 2024. But even though it's a short list, it would be hard for me to remember what those books were. Mostly because I don't think I finished any novels in 24, but I did read some some stories from anthologies and some non-fiction stuff.

Maybe if we had a 2025 Books Read thread, like the Games Beaten thread, that could give me motivation.

Hmm, we could. I always enjoy book recommendations (I have some from several members here on my to-seek list), and it's interesting to see what other folks come across when reading.
