I wasn't really into the spirit this year, either. And it wasn't just me. My mom told me she felt the same way, and we'd talk about all the traditions we used to have, all the decorations she used to put up, the handmade ornaments made by me and my brother over the years, the Nativity play my brother and I used to perform in each year at the local church, my brother and I waking up Christmas morning to rifle through our stockings and watching Christmas specials on Cartoon Network while we waited for our grandparents to come over, going over to my other grandmother's for Christmas lunch and going either to the house of the grandparents from earlier OR my aunt's house for Christmas dinner...

And how nothing seems to be as good as it was before. The new generation of young ones have their own traditions with their own families (outside of me, obviously).

But this year was a delight! I hardly ever get to see the kids, even the kids who live only a 5-15 drive away, so getting to see everyone this year made my Christmas. Even if I was heavily sleep deprived.

Hopefully, getting everyone together for Easter is in the cards, even if it's just brunch. Is it brunch if it's just sparkling grape juice (in red and white varieties), a make your own waffle frittata station and Jesus Christ Superstar?

Christmas was a blur.

A good friend from out of town, that I haven't seen or spoken to in years, was visiting his folks for Christmas. Friday after work was my only chance to get together with him, we went out to dinner. Young people are thinking, "So what? Friday nights are for going out." But older people are thinking, "That sucks, all you want to do at the end of the work week is go home and crash." But it was really great seeing him and getting to catch up. Saturday, I was out practically the entire day seeing The Nutcracker and then dinner afterward. Sunday was the largest gathering I attended, a whole day thing. Monday I had a little rest, but that was the day I went out for the seafood and did some prep cooking. Then Christmas Eve, more cooking and partying, and then Christmas Day.

On Christmas Day, around noon, I started to not feel good. Then the next day, I woke up feeling worse. But I forced myself to get up and go out, even though I really didn't want to, I had to do something work related that was kinda pressing. By the time I got home, I had to crawl into bed and I've barely left since. I think I have the flu. Now I only have a vague recollection of Christmas, and it seems like it was so long ago. I realized yesterday that I didn't really know what day of the week it was LOL.
