I think I just was able to get a good deal on an online auction site. I was able to get a 4 switch (woodgrain, yay!) Atari VCS. This includes 13 games (mostly just common games like Asteroids, PacMan, ET) all in this little stand thingie. It includes the power cord, however, the "Cord leading to the TV" is cut, but the box is still on it, so it shouldn't be hard to repair (or replace). The controller is a third party controller with an orange ball (only one). I heard somewhere that regular Atari 2600 (No, I do not mean 5200) controllers break pretty easily, so this may be beneficial. It hasn't arrived in the mail yet, but from what I can see in the picture and from what the seller said in an Email to me, there are no noticeable dents or scratches.
I paid $5.25 for this junk. However, the shipping was 10.00. It ended up being 15.17 US dollars. How much would this actually be worth?

I'd say you got a good deal. I would have payed about $20.00 without shipping for that haul. However, I'm a fan of the Darth Vader system, so if I ever get one, it will be one of those. In any case, I reccomend getting the official joysticks. They just feel more authentic than most other controllers.

seems like a nice deal to me.

That's fair. About a buck a game is how it usually goes. So figure that you got the system for $2.17, not bad.
The official controllers are actually pretty good, people just abuse the hell out of them. I would seek out a pair of paddles too, that's one of the best things about the 2600 that's not matched by emulation. Breakout, Circus Atari, and Warlords are the best paddle titles. If you're looking for other titles, anything from Activision kicks ass. Enduro is a personal favorite.
As for your video cable, on which side of the RF switcher is it cut? In between the switch box and TV it's just regular flat twin lead antenna cable, that should be easy to come by. In between the 2600 and the RF switcher it's kind of a funky coax cable, with RCA type ends. Even better, the plug on the PCB side is much shorter than a regular RCA plug. I don't know where you can get another cable like that. But I'm sure the guys at AtariAge would be able to help you out. You might just want to put a video mod in it, and ditch the RF crap for good.

I second Hatta's belief in Warlords. 4 player Warlords is possibly the most fun you can have on the system.

Get your self a Genesis controller and plug it in the to Atari. Its not the way it was meant to be played, but it works so nice.

I'll probably just use Genesis controllers anyway. There just to darn comfortable. The Apprentice wrote:I'd say you got a good deal. I would have payed about $20.00 without shipping for that haul. From the picture, it looked like it was cut on both ends, but the switch box was still intact.HATTA wrote:That's fair. About a buck a game is how it usually goes. So figure that you got the system for $2.17, not bad.

I see stranded wiring on one end, with two wires. I should just be able to use a little adapter thingie, which I may actually have to convert it to coax.
I know a retro game store close to me that I can probably find one at.
I don't modify systems unless I have two or more of them. I just feel like I might break it.
If all else fails, I can get an RCA to CoAx adapter from radioshack. Use an RCA cable from the VCS to the adapter. From the CoAx end of the adapter to a VCR (So I can switch without having to change anything out). Plug the VCR in via RCA (AV) cables to the TV. Ditch the cut cord for good.
