Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
The Joker sequel was a pleasant surprise. I felt like it was a nice deconstruction of the first part to the point that it felt like a middle finger to it, and it had a better deep dive into mental illness. It might also be how the director felt about Hollywood itself by making something so postmodern from something so successful. I saw it compared to Freddy Got Fingered in terms of being a troll film and it makes sense on that level. I wonder if this will also get a re-evaluation and resurgence in popularity in a decade or so.
Also Joker doing a Daniel Johnston song? Didn't expect that.

A couple of nights ago, I popped in my latest 4K UHD acquisition:

Crazy how the CGI in this looks better for its time than modern CGI looks by today's standards.
Also, am I the only one who wants a gay male version of this, with Madeline, Helen and Ernest reimagined as gay men?

There's a musical out based on it, so I'd guess there's always room for more gayness.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

This fabulous cult classic turned the big 5-0 today so I decided to watch it for Halloween. FYI, I went with the fan edit from Dr. Sapirstein, which reincorporates select footage taken out due legal issues. The tl;dr is that the in-universe record label was originally called Swan Song but had to be changed due to Led Zepplin's label already being named Swan Song Records.
While this film didn't get the recognition it deserved upon release, it'd later become a cult classic that'd inspire the likes of George Lucas and Daft Punk, as well as a fan convention in Winnipeg, where it found an incredible amount of success.

I finished Begotten (1989) today. A silent horror film made to mimic older pictures like Nosferatu (etc). It is a strange tale and is quite disturbing, honestly. Spoilering the graphic intro in case someone doesn't want to read it:
It is really strange and I'd only recommend it if you like art-films. I liked it just due to its raw, harsh content (it's really effed up) and the medium of the 16 mm film really make it feel like a time capsule you don't want to open.
I have not seen anything like it.

Just Googled it and I swear I've seen that image before. This one, I mean:

I think the figure from that cover was used as a countdown backdrop for a blameitonjorge video, back when he did countdown videos before pivoting towards mini-docs and lost media videos. It's unlisted, but can be found if you look for playlists with his deleted videos.
Anyway, this film sounds crazy AF, way more so than Dr. Caligari, which also came out in 1989. FYI, the link is to a trailer. If you wanna watch it, it's on Shudder and in turn on the Shudder Prime Video Channel and AMC+.
Wasn't this directed by the guy who did Shadow of the Vampire? And that one Marilyn Manson video that was lost for a while before being found but I'm not adding a link here since Manson's an abusive sicko?

Yea Begotten is one of those types of films that gore hounds watch because of how many lists of disturbing films it's on, yet they find it boring most of the time. I assume it's cause it's much more of a surreal art film rather than something like Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, The Guinea Pig films, or whatever else they watch.
