Grabbed these bad boys down in Mexico, D.F not too long ago:

They were only released in Mexico, and IMO, they’re pretty cool variants! I have a lot more stuff like this, if you all would like to see it.

It's been a while since I've shown this one off.

MrPopo, in no way you you drop that grenade and then just leave.

Details please!

Also @Ack, that Metal Slug is awesome! Do you know if they are ports or emulated?

Oh wow. Are those official releases? Oink! still has that trademark Activision cart design.

It's weird to see the silver and red Atari design on a third party game, but I much prefer seeing the box art on the cart rather than Activision's usual practice of using a screenshot.

Those carts show a lot of wear but the Oink! cart still looks better than most U.S. Activision games with their lousy labels and cheap glue.

They are official releases! They were sold in retail stores in Mexico, where the Atari 2600 was quite popular and where both Activision and Atari manufactured a lot of their games. There are about ten in total, and it’s much cheaper to get them in Mexico than in the U.S.

I got this about 15 years ago when it showed up as the top item at that year's Child's Play Charity Auction. Bidding was heated, but I used my strategy of "boredly keep your placard held without lowering it so the other guy realizes you're not going to let it go". Only went $500 over the max I set for myself.

Note wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 6:55 pm That's really cool, Ack. Definitely have never seen that before. Also, don't think I've seen that art used on any other Megal Slug releases either.

Just curious, how'd you end up coming across that version?
I found it in a random game store while visiting Seoul, next to some kind of market that had been converted into a computer supply store, where every shop and stall was now a place to buy a single component. So if you needed RAM, you saw the RAM guy, power supplies you saw the PSU guy, heat sinks the sink guy, and so on.

I'm actually not sure if it's ports or emulation, as I haven't found much online about the collection in English.

Ack, that's really cool you picked it up while traveling as well. That computer market sounds unique too. Appreciate you sharing the story behind it.

Also, popo, that's awesome you got a NWC cart, and one that came from a charity organization. That's funny you never lowered placard during the bidding process. Can't say I've ever participated in a live auction like that. Lol.

...this is definitely a cool idea for a thread Note. I was going through my gameroom trying to find something that fit the topic, only one of them is a game though.

...so I have the Raiden variant I picked up earlier this year at TMG, I didn't even know these existed until another member posted a copy of one here. The pink Saturn cartridge is actually an official memory card variant. I ordered a Saturn memory cart back in the late '90s and everything was mail order. Apparently, I wasn't very clear in my order, but the shop eventually everything got "sorted" and a copy of Tamagotchi Park arrived, which was bundled w/that pink backup memory cart. I chuckled a bit and gave the game to my friend and held on to the cart. The Castlevania SoTN disc is the music sampler that was released either before the game or in magazines, I don't quite remember, but it's from the same friend I gifted Tamagotchi park to. The Switch pins (the logo and Has-Been Heroes) are kind of cool imo b/c I got them from an official Nintendo Switch launch event that was held in DC back in 2017. My wife and I took off work and drove into DC to check it out and it was a blast, the pins are some of the Switch swag we left with. There were even official Nintendo Switch cookes, but those didn't last long lol.

As a journalist and retro game store clerk, I had tons of crazy stuff I simply couldn't store as a squatter. Ironically, in hindsight, I could have bought a house with all the press release kits, goodies, and debug consoles. But what I did hold on to was this, mainly because I liked the DJ Lam Coa CD
