Show us something differant, weird, unique, awesome from your collection

Post by emwearz »

I recently had someone in my game room who had not seen most of the consoles / games since they were a kid, as they went through my shelves, etc there were so many moments when they would say things like "I never knew this existed" . I remembered how much I loved that feeling when I first got into collecting.

So, thread idea!

Show things you have in your collection, games, artwork, accessories, etc. They don't have have be 'rare boxed copy' or worth much, just gaming related things that might just get someone to say "never knew that existed".

I will kick it off with a few PAL/Australian exclusive games from my NES collection.
Image

My understanding are these 3 are Australia / Possibly also New Zealand exclusives.

The Super Mario Bros / Tetris / Nintendo World Cup. This was actually bundled with the Top Loader (I got my copy when I bought my Top Loader) in Australia and New Zealand. All three games are identical to their single cart versions, other than the game selection menu.

International Cricket and Aussie Rules Footy were developed by LaserBeam / Beam Software a local dev who released quite a few games for the NES and published by Mattel. They represent their sports really for for the system and Aussie Rules has some really iconic speech samples that many middle aged Aussies seem to instantly know.

If you are interested in a sound byte.

Got this off ebay not long ago, it's a rarely seen cover variant of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon that was only sold in a physical Limited Run Games store. It has the same artwork that is on the box for the classic edition of the game, but this version is just a standard Switch case. This picture is from the ebay listing I won after months of waiting for a copy to show up on there, I didn't feel like digging it out of my stacked shelf of Switch games to take another picture.

This photo is just pulled out of my collection thread, but I've had all of the games released in the Mega Role Play Project series for some time now and it's one of my favorite groups of things I own.

Aside from Shining Force CD, I've had the opportunity to play through all of them as well, and even though After Armageddon Gaiden is borderline terrible, the five cartridge games are among my favorites for the console(s); The only JRPGs out of those I'd say I enjoyed more than Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes and Surging Aura would be Illusion City and Shin Megami Tensei on the Mega CD, and the only action RPGs I like as much or more than Centy or Beyond Oasis are Light Crusader, Popful Mail, Dungeon Explorer, Monster Wold IV and Rent-A-Hero (okay, those are a little more crowded--).

This is an awesome idea for a thread! I'll have to think about what I can share. Very cool to see those Australia/New Zealand exclusive NES games, I wasn't familiar with those releases.

RJ, I also hadn't seen that cover art variant for Bloodstained. That's cool they had a variant that was only available at their store.

Pierrot, that's an awesome set of games. Did the Mega Drive releases all come with pins or just the titles that are displayed with them here?

One of my goals is to collect the various RPGs and adventure games released in the US for the Genesis. I only have a few more left to grab. Down the line, I'll have to check out fan translations for the games that weren't released in the States. Also, what MegaCD game is in the bottom right?

At first I was going to share the JPN version of the Famicom Gameboy Micro. While rare, it’s a well known thing. The GBM didn’t even break three million units. Everyone who is into this space knows about the micro in some form.

But I do have a couple of things to share. Still Nintendo related.

Back in the day, the old Club Nintendo had some dope rewards with their point system. You’d get a code from the game case and input it into a specific site and get points. Then you do surveys and get even more points.

Image
This feather stylus I got for inputting the code from Zelda Phantom Hourglass and doing the specific survey.

Image
This stylus set was for inputting Brain Age 2 and doing the survey for that game.

Image
Not my image but each of these games were 800 points if I remember correctly and were only available through this program.

As a bonus awesome/rare thing is the Minecraft PS Vita 2000 set that was available in Japan only.

I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!

^ I've never really been too interested in Minecraft, but the back plate on that Vita is pretty spiffy looking. I like the feather-pen stylus quite a bit too.

I know for certain that Centy had a pin that I didn't get with mine, but the JP version is a pretty hard game to find from this side of the world (or at least it was at the time, with a total of three listings within a couple of months), so I wasn't too picky about it. Shining Force CD would have had a sticker with it, I'm pretty sure, and I feel like I've seen listings for it in the past with a pin as well, but I don't know how it would fit into the CD cases. So, I don't really know about those two.

The Mega CD game is After Armageddon Gaiden (a sequel of sorts to Last Armageddon on the Famicom and Japanese computers). Supposedly Working Designs was planning on releasing it in North America, but they couldn't beat the discontinuation of the Sega CD.

What are the games you're still on the hunt for?

That feather stylus and the Minecraft Vita are awesome, Gucci. Really unique items for sure.

That's interesting about the various pins. I'll have to check what the other ones look like. I believe in the States there were a few Genesis games that came with pins as well, one I'm aware of is Captain America and the Avengers. I have the game, but I'm missing the pin.

Thanks for the ID on After Armageddon Gaiden. Looks like a fun one. It hasn't been fan translated, so hopefully that'll happen eventually.

In regards to the RPG or adventure games on the Genesis I'm on the hunt for, I'm still looking for Crusader of Centy, Star Odyssey, Exile, and a fan translated reproduction of Monster World IV. I have leads on Centy and MW IV, but haven't pulled the trigger just yet.

Sword of Vermillion, Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun, and Beggar Prince are games I'm somewhat interested in, but not totally sure I'd click with them, so they're low priority for me.

All right, for something weird and wonderful, how about this: the South Korean Metal Slug Collector's Edition for Windows, containing Metal Slug 3, 4, and 5.

That's really cool, Ack. Definitely have never seen that before. Also, don't think I've seen that art used on any other Megal Slug releases either.

Just curious, how'd you end up coming across that version?
