I will be checking out that Maple Leaf show, if for no other reason than to see Takeshita vs Mike Bailey

Why is Anna Jay not the women's champion right now?

Looks incredible. I really need to see that match at the very least, if not the whole two shows.Raging Justice wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:12 pm https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/ ... ke_bailey/
I don't know what is going on with AEW at the moment, but they seem to have completely jumped the shark as of late. It always feels like one step forward two steps back with that company.
The stories just seem off. I know I defended the swap of the face and heel personas a week or two back, but it doesn't seem to be hitting the same notes it did last year. I actually enjoyed the story last year up until they shat the bed following the devil reveal. Even then I gave them the benefit of doubt as both guys ended up injured at the same time.
It doesn't work, because they added character depth to MJF. Whilst MJF pushed Cole into becoming the villain. Both took a natural turn. With the reset they have gone backwards and it robs the audience of them seeing MJF get his revenge and Cole getting his comeuppance.
This could have been saved or could still be saved with better writing.
MJF has gone back to being a one dimensional heel. That would be fine if the story of him returning to this side because of Cole's actions was more convincing and still offered audiences rare moments of goodness or instances where we can feel sympathetic to him.
I would have quickly done a double turn. I would have had MJF remind us exactly what kind of person Cole really is. Cole could have done the whole "your actions prove my point, you have shown you are exactly who I said you were" shtick. But his "I'm the good guy in this" act should have had cracks from the start that make the audience think "hang on... no you aren't". There should be arrogance.
The story needs to be personal and should be like what Hangman and Swerve became.
It's weird too, because Cole just dropped a couple of words in his initial promo to distance the Kingdom. That seemed at the time like a way of just retconning the story. But now they are involved again. Which is it, AEW?
I am sure they are telling a story here. The Kingdom will reveal they are in cahoots with MJF and turn on Cole or maybe Cole will side with them and they all go back to being shitty heels. Maybe MJF will be face again. Who knows? But either way, there are going to be major plot holes and it seemingly isn't going to make sense.
Meanwhile, where is the BCC storyline actually going? Seemingly no where.
Why is Statlander face now? What was the point of her heel turn like 4 or 5 months ago?
Maybe this is just a difficult transition point for the company with too many filler episodes as they build towards specials and PPVs. This latter half of the year is too bloated for them and it shows in the consistency of the television product and writing.
One positive is they are now announcing cards weeks in advance. It demonstrates better planning moving forward and hopefully indicates that they have things properly mapped out which might improve the inconsistent quality. It should also hopefully help them promote shows to improve ratings and attendance, but we will see. They need more compelling stories first, more consistent booking and, I hate to say it, but better matches. Considering them presenting themselves as a 'wrestling first' promotion and having the 'where the best wrestle' catchphrase, I can't even remember the last time I caught Dynamite or Collision and saw a truly great match.

Yeah AEW is a mess right now. I was thinking that when watching this week's Dynamite. Story lines that are confusing, face and heel turns that make no sense, heatless feuds, etc.
I think the only thing I'm enjoying is the increased focus on Orange Cassidy, who is now being positioned at the reluctant chosen one to take down Moxley's new BCC. I think Cassidy has been long overdue for a level up within AEW's hierarchy.

MIke Bailey and Takeshita are two of the best in the business right now. Put them in the ring with anyone and they will deliver.
Re: The Wrestling Thread
That I do agree with. Orange Cassidy is brilliant and I am eager to see him be the one to take down Moxley and the new BCC.Raging Justice wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:59 pm Yeah AEW is a mess right now. The Motor City Machine Guns just became unquestionably the number one tag team in the entire company (male OR female) and the best booked, baby face tag team we've seen in WWE in years.

TNA doesn't believe in Joe Hendry.

Harley Cameron is a treasure:

Sometimes the most entertaining people on a wrestling promotion are on the lower card. Harley Cameron and Chelsea Green prove this every week.
