When I first played through Myst in middle school, I did it with a friend, and the only thing we had to help us was a physical journal we used for working out the puzzles. We spent several days hanging out, going over our ideas on how to advance and so forth. We had both had previous experience with the game and knew some pitfalls to avoid, thankfully, but it was the first time either of us had actually beaten the game when we reached the finale. I was damn proud of it.
Since then, I've continued on to beat Riven, Myst III: Exile, and Myst IV: Revelation. III was probably the easiest in the series to me. Riven has some complicated sections but was still enjoyable. IV has the monkey puzzle, which just plain sucks. Worst puzzle in the series as far as I am aware, though I have yet to play V or Uru.

Re: The Point and Click Adventure Game Thread
I was playing Myst a little bit over the summer, but I don't really have any motivation to continue with it. I don't really enjoy it.
Has anyone played Shadowgate, either in its original form or the 2013 remake, and care to share feelings on it?
I tend to get a little confused about whether I actually like the genre at all or not. I haven't played too many point and clicks, but while I liked Broken Age and Finding Teddy a fair amount, and I really liked Lilly Looking Through, Secret of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango did little to nothing for me. (I really did not care for Grim Fandango.) I've played a handful of others like Machinerium and Samarost, which I'm more conflicted about.

Re: The Point and Click Adventure Game Thread
I have played both the original and remake of Shadowgate. I like both, though for different reasons. Shadowgate works well for incorporating horror, and while it sometimes uses ridiculous logic to kill you, it's still fascinating to explore. The remake is beautiful and breathes new life into the game, but the way it expands can get a little tedious at times, because it keeps going well past the limits of the base game. If you're new to Shadowgate, you may find it drags on too long. If you're a long time fan though, it can be an enjoyable expansion on the base idea

Thanks, Ack! That's helpful to know. I kind of thought that the remake was basically like Monkey Island Special Edition where it would switch between the original and updated graphics at the touch of a button, so I didn't realize there were actually additions to the remake. Part of the draw for me is the updated artwork in the remake, though it kind of sounds like it would be better if I started with the original. I'll have to give the original version a look, and see if it keeps my interest.
