But lordofduct, of course the SD card has a bus latency or w/e, but the point to address is whether "faster" SD cards are actually faster. TBH, it seems the way memory card formats are, there doesn't seem to be one with multiple speeds. The reason I say this is because all SD readers can (for the most part) read all SD cards. So, wouldn't a faster SD card require a different SD card reader, similar to how faster ram requires the connector to be faster?

The bus controller is built into the memory stick. Of course your hardware that it connects to also can cause speed up or slow down as well too.

Nintendo has said nothing to that effect. There have a been a lot of people that have tested the wii with normal sd cards and they work fine. As I mentioned earlier neither sandisk or Nintendo mention the benefits of using the wii card. That's why I am assuming that it's just re branded. If there really was something special about the card you would think they would list that in the product description.

Well I guess it isn't proprietary then. That is very good!

How much are they charging for them?

Cause 2 Gig cards are cheap on newegg and tigerdirect. But have you ever tried to buy one at BestBuy, CompUSA or Staples? They charge almost 100 bucks.

If you look at the links I posted earlier I found some 150x 2gig cards going for about $50 I think, while the same size nintendo card was running upwards of $100.

I think I accidently fat fingered the number in my previous post. It should have been $40. There are also a bucnh that are going for $40 and also have a $12 mail in rebate. So you can get them for under $30. There are also some cheaper 2gb sticks out there but most of them are rated at a lower transfer rate.

Bestbuy... 2GB sticks average 100-140 dollars. There is ONE SanDisk branded 2GB SD stick for 47.99 on sale for a short time (and it is a slow one). The rest are very high.

Newegg averages 20-45 dollars depending on speeds.

Wow that lexan 133x 2gb stick is 144.99 on sale. The OCZ one at newegg kicks its ass. 2gb @ 150x for only 41.99.

Notice how they don't list the bus speed. It's probably one of the slower sd cards which are fine if you're putting gamesaves and data on them. But once people run out of internal wii memory and start running apps and vc games of the sd card you're probably going to run into issues.
