Why do people like roguelikes?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

Was excited until I saw it was the graphical version.

Not a huge fan overall. I do like some of the classics and the Mystery Dungeon games but not the deluge of indie slop.

Different strokes, as they say. I don't comprehend the appeal of "soulslike" games or tower defense or MMOs or RTS etc etc
