So Cody Rhodes destroyed the Bloodline at Wrestlemania, and now he's on Smackdown...fighting the Bloodline

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I may not post again for a while. I'm tired of how inactive this forum, and a lot of other forums on the internet are. Aside from reprise (who makes great posts), there is almost no interaction in this thread, and most of the other threads on this forum aren't much better.
I feel like any sense of community on the internet is dying. It's not just racketboy, any time I post anything on other forums I go to I feel like I'm screaming into a void. Same thing on reddit. There is absolutely ZERO engagement. People just post whatever they want to talk about and ignore everyone else. I think I need to start going out more and making real-life, flesh and blood friends. Online spaces these days just feel lonely and depressing. The internet is dying...

Sorry to hear that. I feel the same, to be honest. I seem to recall I made a similar observation and posted about it in another forum I am on. Sadly, the perception is forums are now obsolete and that Reddit, Facebook groups and discord etc have replaced the functions of a forum. I disagree. You don't get the sense of community and identity that forums have/had. They are largely large empty anonymous spaces. They don't facilitate anf promote decent discussions and debates like forums do.Raging Justice wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 4:52 am I may not post again for a while. not sure if I can reply to this as it is out of topic, but a lot of forums went down because of the tight control and restrictions. The internet used to be a place where everyone was friendly and happy to chat. Now its a long list of rules and angry people looking to pick a fight. Many times on reddit I got my submission taken down by the "bot admin" the moment I click the "submit" button.Raging Justice wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 4:52 am I may not post again for a while. I love forums. Its my favorite type of hangout online. I learned so much from them.
Re: The Wrestling Thread
I don't find that is an issue with forums, but it definitely is an issue with Facebook groups and Reddit etc. Forums nourish and encourage participation and a sense of community, by allowing conversations to flow more freely and by compartmentalising conversations into different areas and topics. For example, like right now, where we are in a wrestling discussion in a retro video games forum and also drifting off topic.RCBH928 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:27 pmnot sure if I can reply to this as it is out of topic, but a lot of forums went down because of the tight control and restrictions. On Facebook groups, for whatever reason, a lot of moderators and admins behave as if their group (one of 100 billion groups on that crappy platform) is sooooo incredibly important and if anyone dares ask a question that has been asked before or posts something that is even remotely off topic, then it most be deleted and the user warned or removed, or their entire group could be in jeopardy! It's serious business!
Plus, I tend to find us old guard, who have run forums and moderated or admin'd before, we tend to be reasonably fair and impartial. I have never been banned from a forum in my life as far as I remember. I don't even think I have had a temporary suspension. But on Facebook groups I have managed to piss off a bunch group admins or mods for the most minor shit. I got banned from a bunch of groups, because in one particular group I was in I got into an argument (not a heated one, at least I didn't think it was heated) with one of the admins. The straw that broke the camel's back was I laugh reacted on one of their comments or posts and they then blocked/banned me from about 5 groups they run

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Said I wouldn't post again for a while, but your responses got me thinking some more
I'm so tired of the vice grip negativity seems to have over the internet. I tried joining two new forums recently. On one forum, the topic that has BY FAR the most amount of comments/responses is the politics/current events thread with the usual back and forth bitching between left wingers and right wingers with the usual arguments that both sides always have
You want to talk about a cool game you've played on that forum, maybe do a little review of it...no one gives a shit. I actually saw a thread there where someone made a nice, well thought out review of an indie game he had played...zero responses. Someone else made a thread discussing single-genre games versus multi-genre games. It got maybe four responses max over the course of a week.
The other forum I went to, the threads that got bumped to the top the most were the ones complaining about the ongoing Culture War or how much Disney/Star Wars sucks.
I think there is a place for complaining and criticism, and I don't mind specific threads on various forums for politics, culture war, current events, etc., but that is ALL PEOPLE WANT TO FUCKING TALK ABOUT. Any other threads just die a slow death. You want to talk about anything FUN or POSITIVE and NO ONE FUCKING CARES!!!
I said before how there's little engagement in most online spaces now, the only exception to that seems to be any topic that is negative or related to culture war/politics.
It's like there's no where FUN on the internet anymore, where people are interacting and engaging with each other talking about fun things. As RCBH928 said, it's mostly just angry people looking for a fight, or trolls, or overbearing moderators. They are the only people who will engage with you, everyone else is off in their own little worlds just making random, self centered, posts and ignoring everyone else, or just endlessly posting memes all day or spamming threads with pictures and Twitter links.
This is internet forums in 2024. Don't get me wrong, occasionally some person will respond to a post you make, give you a like or whatever, but outside of the negative threads, or the pointless joke/meme/picture spam threads, most forums just feel dead with little engagement. NO ONE IS ACTUALLY HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH EACH OTHER.
I wonder if maybe part of the problem is just low traffic, with only the "angry people looking for fights" as RCBH928 put it showing up to these places. Maybe as he said, people have been driven away by overly restrictive rules and moderators.
Reddit isn't much better, a lot of posts get 4 or 5 responses (if the poster is lucky) and then just die. Make a thread complaining about something or with the intention of ruffling people's feathers in some way, (or just name drop a politician or culture war buzzword) and suddenly the poster has 100 RESPONSES.
internet forums are just so boring and lifeless now and most of the people actively engaging are the "toxic" ones for lack of a better term.
THERE'S NO FUCKING COMMUNITY ANYMORE!!!
Sorry, this ended up being a rant I guess

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I didn't watch Forbidden Door, but it seems like it was a good show. Britt Baker returned. Hangman will be back soon, as his return was teased during Collision. It seems like he is depressed and drinking again. I suspect he won't be the wildcard in the Owen Hart cup tournament, but might be wrong on that.
I saw some clips of Swerve vs Ospreay and it looked incredible!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I'm gonna keep this short, as I'm in a negative frame of mind as my last two posts have probably shown, and I'm losing interest in forum posting since this thread gets so little engagement
Typical AEW pay per view
Great in ring, but nothing of note really happened and we're going to have weeks of bad TV until the next pay per view
Monet was sloppy, and the crowd turned on her. Vaquer looked like a million bucks and the crowd wanted her to win. DMD showed up post match but didn't say or do anything. I hope Mercedes ups her promo game, because DMD is top of the class in that area, and Mercedes just came off of a match where Stephanie Vaquer out performed her in the ring. Mercedes is not looking too hot right now.
Ladder match was fun, crowd got firmly behind Takeshita but of course The Scapegoat won
Cassidy/ZSJ was a great, though ultimately pointless match, like a lot of this Forbidden Door stuff. Cassidy got to show off his technical wrestling skill though, forcing ZSJ to dig deep into his bag of tricks to beat him. Cassidy may have gotten just a smidge of respect from ZSJ
Toni/Mina Shirakawa was an abomination that ended with the three girls kissing and me wanted to throw my TV out of a window. We should have had a title change here and a turn from Mariah May. FUCK EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS
The Learning Tree vs Team Samoa Joe was fun, Jericho addressed a heckling crowd before the match with a great response. He's kind of poking fun at pro wrestling right now and I'm all for it. Y2J put Hook over clean, so I hope everyone stops bitching about Jericho. He even let Hook beat him with his own finishing move. That almost NEVER happens in wrestling.
Swerve/Ospreay was fantastic, though arguably a bit overbooked with Callis and Nana getting involved. Plus, this was one of those matches where it felt like they were kicking out of EVERYTHING. Some people won't like that. AEW might have tried a bit too hard with this match
Shingo had a good match, but I'm struggling to remember who it was against. These shows have too many matches. Oh that's right, it was Bryan. Jesus, it's so easy to forget what Bryan is doing anymore given his shit booking. They had a really good match though.
Okada once again, showed us his comic genius during the six man tag match. I'd let you find out about that one yourself. You have to see it.
I missed a lot of the pre show, but the match Fenix and Pentagon were in was pretty good. I will have to catch the Willow/Tam vs Stat/Momo Watanabe match because as we all know I'm in love with Tam and Natsupoi.
I didn't watch Mox/Naito because Mox is boring, he did drop the title though. HIs wife Renee kept mis pronouncing Naito's name during the pre show
So that's it, a pretty fun show, but like everything AEW does nothing to really get hyped about except maybe DMD being back like three or four months later than she should have been. Mercedes has cooled off a bit I think so this doesn't feel exciting anymore
Just like WWE right now, AEW feels kind of boring when looking at the grand scheme of things. That's it, I'm done. Maybe I'll post again if I see anything interesting in the news cycle, but I'm kind of losing my motivation so it's possible I might not post for a while.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Unfortunately Baker has been out with an injury, she was only cleared earlier this week (according to Fightful I think, who - by revealing that fact - kinda inadvertently ruined that she would probably show up).
But yeah, that's ultimately why I didn't bother with Forbidden Door. I will watch it at some point, no doubt. But it's a show that ultimately never matters in the grand scheme of things.
It's weird how people seemed to really want and (think we're getting) Ospreay vs Swerve at All In instead and wanted Ospreay to win. It seems it will be Ospreay vs MJF instead, unless Ospreay ends up being the wildcard in the Owen cup.
That's my guess, anyways.

Bryan will win the Owen Hart cup and main event All In against Swerve for the title. Bryan will pick up the win and then drop the title to Ospreay at Wrestledream where he puts not just the title on his line, but his career.Raging Justice wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 8:32 am Shingo had a good match, but I'm struggling to remember who it was against. Re: The Wrestling Thread
Yeah, I don't like that. Bryan is damaged goods at this point. Bad booking and too many face/heel turns. I'd rather see Hangman win the Cup as a heel to go against Swerve, or maybe you could even double turn the two of them.Reprise wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 9:37 am Unfortunately Baker has been out with an injury, she was only cleared earlier this week (according to Fightful I think, who - by revealing that fact - kinda inadvertently ruined that she would probably show up).

AEW doesn't have a top heel, Hangman could fit that role
