What's your personal pet peeve in gaming?
Re: What's your personal pet peeve in gaming?
I'm selective as well, and often wind up avoiding online games or group activities in them due to social anxiety. It's actually something I've seen posted about elsewhere from other MMO players. From that, and my own experience, there's a marked difference between playing with a core group of friends - even ones you met through the game - and going with random people. Personally, I like having the option to group up, but if a game forces me to - especially auto-grouped - then I'll probably just avoid it or stop playing (see: FFXIV).

No worries, you guys. I've just been playing games with some of these guys for over a decade now, so it's part of the ritual to sit down at least one day a week to bang out several hours in a game. This hasn't just been Payday 2, we've also played the likes of Left 4 Dead 2, Rocket League, Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Monaco, Duck Game, Grim Dawn, Gauntlet, Terraria, Battleblock Theater, Magicka, Contagion, No More Room in Hell, Screencheat, Dungeon Defenders, Talisman, Hammerwatch, Fistful of Frags, Half-Life 2 deathmatch, Killing Floor, Killing Floor 2, Iron Brigade, The Ship, and Mercenary Kings together in the last 5 years. It's just something we do.

There are 462 days between those two dates. If your friend played 3800 hours in that time frame, that means that he played the game for 8.25 hours per day, every day for over a year. (Similarly, if you played the game 2500 hours, then you played it 5.4 hours per day, every day.)pteague87 wrote:2: Absolutely hate "pay to win". Gonna bring up Destiny again.....sue me. When they introduced "pay said amount to start at level 30," that was a major slap in the face to my 2500+ hours logged, my best friend / Destiny cohort's 3800+ hours. We started there. You should start there. I think that actually turned a lot of people off because half the people I played with quit playing around that introduction.
That's a lot of time.
What can I say?....we liked it.....a little.

Gonna do a bit of a necro-bump.
This has always ticked me off. I cannot stand shmups that kill you when touching the border of the play field or environment. Its mostly older games that do this. It's especially bad on Konami games wherein you change your speed. Suddenly you go from an open area to tight corridors with enemies and bullets flying everywhere. Good luck dodging all that and not running into the wall because you upgraded your speed too much.

I also don't usually enjoy this, though there are a couple games that really play this aspect up that are decent games despite that, like Aeroblasters. At least in the fast-moving sections of the game Aeroblasters gives you bumpers. Unfortunately, they also have some slower sections later where you have to thread the stage like a needle eye.opa wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 2:48 pm Gonna do a bit of a necro-bump.

I'm not an overly-huge fan of them but the Psyvariar games had the risk vs reward mechanic of grinding off enemies for higher scores. I like that approach... not "OOPS TOUCHED THE WALL!".
