Buggiest Console Games

Post by Limewater »

Note 1: I did a cursory search and did not find another thread covering this subject. I apologize if this is a dupe.

I am on the last level of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine for the N64. (For clarification, by "last level" I mean the last level of the main game-- not the bonus level unlocked by completing the game).

This game has been buggy from the start, with random lockups throughout. However, things have gotten even worse on the last level, as major elements of the level seem to simply vanish for no reason. At this point, I am guessing that I will simply need to complete the level in one sitting without it either locking up or me dying and having to reload a saved game.

I have never played another console game as buggy as this in my life. Prior to this game, Lego Star Wars 2 on the gamecube had been the buggiest console game I had played.

So:

What other console games have been notably buggy? I am referring specifically to bugs that hurt gameplay, so the wall-jumping bug with the "secret zones" in the original Metroid does not count.

Also, on a side note:
2) Does anyone have any tips for avoiding the bugs in the last level of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine on N64?

What was wrong with lego star wars 2? I finished it on PC with no issues. I've never really come across a game that was more stable on PC than console.

I just finished X-Men Legends 1 on PS2 and the fucking thing loved to freeze up on me randomly. Google shows many threads for this issue and the solution was basically to try a new party. Apparently certain party combinations freeze up the game frequently. It also had some annoying issues like characters jumping to their doom for no reason, doors not functioning when they should, thus halting your progress, stuff like that.

Maybe it's cheating since it's playing it on a BC system, but Grandia for the ps1, played on the ps2, would freeze up constantly, requiring a restart. Oddly enough, the problem was alleviated somewhat by switching the sound output to mono.

Well, though I'm really enjoying it, Second Sight has been screwing up a lot. The videos keep freezing while the audio continues to work, sometimes the controller will refuse my commands, things like that. They haven't been huge issues, but it's kind of annoying not being able to reload when I want.

Buggiest game I ever played was definitely Quest for glory 4. Incidentally I'd say it's one of my favorite games as well though.

I've been getting pissed off with Castlevania SOTN in Dracula X chronicles. Any time you take damage during a bat/wolf/mist morph transformation it crashes. The POPS conversion does not have this problem.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Grandia 2 on the PS2. Missing textures, Slow down and an overall worse graphic quality than the DC version. This was a total dissapointment at the time.

I seem to remember sword of beserk for dc (or at least the major release of the rip) being buggy - you couldn't finish it

also, wasn't superman 64 super buggy? I also believe that crazy taxi 2 (DC) was a little twitchy
