Yeah, that press conference and all the muddying of the waters that has gone just doesn't really appeal to me. In kayfabe it makes no sense and in real life it makes little sense. People are excited because they love Cody, they love the Rock and they love Roman. I just don't really care at this point. I'll check Mania out at some point, I have seen them all, but I doubt I will watch it as it happens.
Raging Justice wrote:I hope Storm drops the title to Purrazzo as having her fight Mercedes would just be laughable at this point. Mercedes needs a real opponent, not the AEW female equivalent of R Truth.
I hate to disappoint you, but I can't see it happening. I imagine the title will be taken off her at some point before Mercedes gets her title shot though. Maybe to Britt Baker or back to Jamie Hayter, who I expect will be back very soon. Actually, maybe it will be to Mariah.

Ah, it's a good time to be a wrestling dvd/blu-ray collecting weirdo and an AEW fan. WWE might have given up on physical media (actually, in retrospect, announcing that they are stopping DVD and Blu-Ray production a month or so before the international Netflix deal got announced now makes a ton of sense), but AEW is actually stepping up theirs. After nearly a year or uncertainty, AEW released 4 of their PPVs on DVDs all at once last December and now two months later they are continuing with the release of All Out 2023. They seem to be skipping All In 2023 for now, but I expect that will get some kind of special release later this year.

Even better news is they will now be releasing blu-rays and have completely stopped DVD production.

I don't know why I care about collecting wrestling shows on DVD and Blu-Ray, but I just do for whatever reason

I have almost the full set of AEW PPV DVDs. I am only missing All Out 2020, which wasn't a great show anyways.

I really wish we got some kind of 'best of AEW TV' sets sometime too. It would be good to have some of the best moments and matches represented on physical media as well. They probably won't, but they already did two 'Best of Dark' sets, so it's not impossible. I do need to remind myself that it is not the early 2000s anymore though and I am lucky AEW even bothers releasing dvds or blu-rays at all.

It's amazing to me that a guy who abandoned WWE and helped a bunch of guys create the biggest threat WWE has faced since the mid 90s, is getting rewarded for it. Meanwhile, guys who've been in WWE for a while now, putting in work and getting over like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayne, Drew McIntyre, and LA Knight are getting the shaft in favor of the the AEW guy.

If I was on WWE's roster, I'd be pissed.

business knows no social relationships, just exchange of benefits. Bischoff literally wanted to bankrupt WWF, yet Vince signed him up to show on RAW because that will boost WWF ratings and WWF income.

It's funny to me that Cody fans were pissed at The Rock for doing basically what Cody did to Sami and Kevin Owens last year. If you think about it, Cody never really belonged in the Bloodline story. He was shoehorned into it and storyline-wise (and in terms of where the momentum was), it made more sense for Sami to win the Rumble and face Roman at Wrestlemania.

It's crazy how no one is even talking about Randy Orton anymore, or pretty much anyone. CM Punk is already old news. Everything is just about CAWdy, Reigns, and The Rock

Well thankfully, we can forget about those three and just enjoy Hangman, Swerve, and Samoa Joe

If you'd told me a year ago we'd have Swerve, Hangman and Samoa Joe all in a match in the main event for the world title, I wouldn't have believed you. I am so glad we have got it. The match is going to be awesome and I can't wait for whatever happens afterwards.

So it's interesting reading about these big shakeups. Apparently, Scott D'Amor wanted to make TNA grow and become something more. Anthem was not cool with that because they are cheap and don't want to put any money into the promotion. Then over in Stardom it sounds like there were a few creative/booking disagreements between Rossy and Bushiroad.

Ultimately, it comes down to people being passionate about their promotion but having to deal with the reality of a big corporation having control over it. If I ever have a successful company, I'm not selling to anyone. It's MY company.

Some of what I'm reading now sounds like maybe Rossy left of his own accord, but Bushiroad is saying that they fired him. So some bad blood there I guess.

Meltzer says a few top Stardom girls will go to Rossy's new company. He also said Mayu Iwatani is furious and that she's stuck in her Stardom contract for possibly another year or two. From everything I've heard she is the real face of the company. I'm not saying nobody tops her in popularity, just pointing out that she's been there since day one and from a kayfabe perspective is sort of the protagonist of the promotion. She's the Goku to their Dragonball. So the possibility of her not being happy there now is interesting. Personally, I feel like her, Tam, and Giulia are really the big three and we already know Giulia is likely going to WWE, Mayu supposedly wants out, and I don't really know what's next for Tam though I've yet to hear anything about her leaving or wanting out.

Meltzer also says Kairi went back to WWE because she knew where things were heading in Stardom. I always thought her return to WWE was rather sudden as she's a huge star in Japan and it felt like there was still more that she could have done there.

It's all kind of sad, I don't know if I'll ever see some of those awesome girls in AEW now, since some of them likely won't even be in Stardom anymore and anyone who joins Rossy's new company probably won't want to (or be allowed to) work with AEW given what a prat Tony Kahn is. A lot of Stardom contracts are supposedly up in March, so we'll see what happens then. Given all the uncertainty regarding Stardom as well as what NJPW will or won't do with its two women's titles, it totally makes sense for Mercedes to head back stateside and it's pretty obvious now that she's "All Elite" and ready to do "Big Business"

Interesting thing I noticed at the beginning of Smackdown, there was actually a sizeable number of people in the crowd doing Rocky chants when Triple H said that Roman would face Cody at Mania. It wasn't everyone in the building as everyone else was clearly pro Cody/anti-Rock, but I thought that was interesting. There are apparently some people who would rather see Rock versus Roman than seeing Cody in that match. It will be interesting to see if this is any kind of sign of things to come. Now WWE is known for fiddling with the audio, but this sounded legit

So I'll give WWE some credit for consistency in the way they're booking the women. These were the last women in the Royal Rumble

Image

Everyone here is going to be in the Elimination Chamber match except Bayley obviously. Bianca and Becky were a given. Becky is a horsewoman and a few years ago the company's top star, and Bianca is the black Wonder Woman who almost never loses to anyone. She is seriously over pushed by WWE and I think a lot of people are losing interest in her as times goes on. Tiffany is nice to see. She's a former NXT women's champion and has history with Becky, who took that title from her. She's pretty good in the ring and has a spoiled, rich girl gimmick that can be fun. Jade Cargill is obviously getting pushed because she's AEW and that's really all there is to say about her. She'll likely get the Nia Jax treatment of all the women having to work together to eliminate her. Jade is in sink or swim territory. She's either going to live up to this mega push as time goes on, or prove that she doesn't deserve it, then WWE will lose interest in her and let her be a jobber before being future endeavored and either ending up back in AEW or in TNA.

Liv Morgan is...just sort of there. I still don't know why she gets pushed so hard other than her looks. She's not even remotely talented. She's not amazing in the ring and she's not a good promo. Naomi is getting booked pretty well just because she's recently returned and has that new car smell. I wonder how quickly WWE and the fans will get bored with her though. It seems like whenever WWE has these big events coming up there is always one or two people who are getting booked strong but only temporarily. Out of these six women, only Becky, Bianca, and Tiffany Stratton are likely still going to be a big deal in the months to come, and maaaaybe Jade Cargill. Jury's still out on her.

We finally saw Dakota Kai and WWE is making it a little vague where her allegiance lies. So I wonder if she'll play a role in the match between Bayley and Iyo. If she turns on Bayley, does that make Bayley into a big babyface going forward? Bayley's promo was already trying to get people to forget about everything heelish she's done in the past year or so. Pro wrestling is so funny. People can do the most vile things and then just cut a promo where they're like, "Yeah, so I've been kind of a bitch and treated all of you fans like shit...but hey that's old news. You guys like me now right?"

That's kind of what her promo was like
