Although I am a mac guy now ,
I can tell you that windows XP-sucks next to os x- but it is MUCH better than windows 98 and others. It is actually usable now.
But NO ONE should use explorer. From my experience, every other browser out there is better than this browser.
It used to be the old days when Explorer was king and Apple would be nice to Microsoft so they would support their os 9 with it.

Hmm. I'm using it and haven't had this issue. Perhaps there's some way to configure it and avoid the problem.

Thanks. I'm going to hold off on IE 8 for now. I mainly use Firefox. But a few career sites i use don't work under Firefox.

Well check it out any way if you have some spare time, some one already said they have it installed with out any problems, I think it might just be some small glitch that only effects a small percent.

Install it. If it gives you a problem just use system restore (Windows will create a point before installing IE8) and wait for a fix to be released.

Well that's purely opinion, but OK. What people don't understand is that since Apple controls the hardware their software is running on, they will run into little problems. Windows, on the other hand, has to make their software compatible with MANY different manufactures, most of which make cheap substandard hardware and just want your money. So I just don't think it's fair to compare.

Well when was the last time you used Internet Explorer? Versioin 6 (which came with XP) was EXTREMELY bad, and supposedly had many security flaws. I was using IE7 for a long time with out ANY problems. It's just that IE is the most widely used browser (since you'd have to manual CHOOSE to use a different one, and most people don't) so that's why most malicious software is designed to exploit it over other browsers. Any other problems with IE, I have no argument for. I'm not trying to stick up for IE, I'm just saying.

Whatever else may be said about IE 8 or Windows or whatever, I do know one thing:

Lol, yeah that's what I've been doing. You use IE to use Windows Update though, right?

Well, actually it is my opinion that OS X is better than XP and I think I can prove it to a certain extent. Yes you are right, Apple got an advantage because they control the hardware and it is for sure if Microsoft controlled the hardware their software will be better. But its just all about how Windows works, that sucks. I mean all the installing , a billion settings, thousands upon thousands of spread around files. But I really can understand why someone would have a reason to prefer XP, it is good enough now days.

As for IE, yes I use what comes with XP(or used) . I am glad that you mentioned that it is really bad, because that is what I thought too. I never tried 7 or 8, from experience, Microsoft hardly improves on any product's usability they just add features that is all. Plus, even if it is better I still think that Firefox would be better.

I might try IE 7 if you say so, but boy do I remember a load of crap of viruses and pop-ups coming from that thing.

If you have not been using explorer since '99, I bow to you in respect.
What DID you use? There was no safari, firefox, and I do not recall Opera existing and Netscape used to suck and Linux was difficult to install(for the average human being) and not that popular.

I used Opera for a long time before before Firefox came out. It might not be 10 years but I don't think it's far off...

I'm not a big fan of IE but I still use it because it's 'native' and features the best rendering and smoothest scrolling of all browers that I've tried. But its management of addons is cumbersome for less tech-savvy people and yes it can be a major pain when it comes to system security. I hope the new engine MS are building for their next browser would improve on an already solid product. IE8.1's support for custom Javascripts means that I no longer will require Firefox on my system :!:
