Stop. I’m still in the refractory period after the release of Xanadu. I can only take so much!!!BoneSnapDeez wrote:

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I played through one level of Sonic Superstars. To my surprise, it actually does feel like a 16-bit Sonic game...with just a few modern touches. I don't know if the game as a whole matches up to the standard set by Sonic Mania after only experiencing just one stage, but it has the same vibe as Sonic Mania. It's got that 90s Sonic feel.

For forty years I've been thinking about Donkey Kong 3 all wrong. It's not a bad Donkey Kong game; it's a great Naked Lunch game.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Sonic Superstars is the best that Sonic has controlled in 2d since Mania. He feels better here than he did in the 2d sections in Generations, Forces, and Frontiers. Control feels precise with zero input lag and the jump physics feel like they did in the old days.
Superstars is pretty solid, if unambitious. It just plays like a 16-bit Sonic game, nothing more, nothing less. The graphics aren't as nice as it goes for a more modern look rather than Mania's approach of LITERALLY looking like a Sega Genesis game, but it otherwise feels like something in the vein of Sonic 1 or 2. One nice little detail, you can sometimes see other characters (like Amy or Big) in the background as you play through a stage. I'm pretty sure I saw Tails attacking something in the background at one point.
There's chaos emerald powers you can use, but I haven't messed around with them much, but that's a new gameplay element. I also don't know if playing as the other characters changes anything, I've been using Sonic.
Just posting my thoughts as the reactions I've seen to this game have been all over the place. I think the main sticking point I've seen is price, because the game is supposedly pretty short. However, I've noticed it going on sale a lot, particularly on Amazon.

As much as I'm not super digging Turok 2, I have at least come across the reason why it came out SO much later in Japan: They redubbed a TON of the dialogue into Japanese! I really gotta give proper to Akklaim for, unlike SO many other companies (some of them being platform holders even), actually giving a damn and trying to put together a product that people might actually want to buy.

I wanted to like N64 Turok, but the vast areas of walking and fog , not knowing where you are going, is not my thing.PartridgeSenpai wrote:As much as I'm not super digging Turok 2, I have at least come across the reason why it came out SO much later in Japan: They redubbed a TON of the dialogue into Japanese! It's very much an acquired taste, but I enjoyed my time with the first one more than I didn't. I'll get more into it when I write my beaten (or not beaten <w>) review of it, but 2 is kinda incredible in how it solves almost none of the biggest issues with the first game and introduces *so* many moreRCBH928 wrote:I wanted to like N64 Turok, but the vast areas of walking and fog , not knowing where you are going, is not my thing.PartridgeSenpai wrote:As much as I'm not super digging Turok 2, I have at least come across the reason why it came out SO much later in Japan: They redubbed a TON of the dialogue into Japanese! Wow, Super Mario Sunshine really is as bad as they say...worse even.
Yoshi's Crafted World also sucks, but the Yoshi games all generally suck. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on the SNES is the only good one. It's amazing how many 16-bit classics still beat the pants off of games released years later.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Has anyone played Eastward? The trailers look awesome (That awesome soundtrack!) and some of the reviews I've seen are positive. I'm very curious about it.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I was so stoked when I saw the trailers, I bought Eastward as soon as it came out, but have not played it. Added the DLC to my wish-list. If I played videogames, I'm sure I'd be raving about this one.
