We desperately need to find you some healthier sources of entertainment. While we're at it, maybe we can do the same for me.

Too bad there isn't a kind of game one can play by oneself. Maybe something one can play on a television. I think there's a term for such a thing.

Other than that there's books, films, television, comics, model building, witchcraft, photography, scrapbooking, decoupage, woodworking, the list goes on.

Oh, I'm extremely busy. I don't actually have time for hobbies anymore. It's just not particularly exciting, and it's taken longer and longer to drive to a KMart.

That's why I like you, REPO. You give so much of yourself and don't look for anything in return. Like Mark Trail.

I'm not thrilled about the weather getting cooler here, as I'm more of a summer guy, but I'm happy about the various snacks and treats that come with fall. I was able to buy some apple cider donuts at a farmer's market near work. Looking forward to snacking on those later!

You still live in NYC? I've always wanted to experience fall in NYC. In fact, four years ago when I was planning to move there one thing I wanted to do more than anything is march in the Greenwich Village parade.

One idea for a costume I've had is a mashup of Herbert West and Charlie Price from Kinky Boots, in particular the final number.

Unless Greenwich Village parade costumes are supposed to be more original. I've been tooling around with an idea for either a stained-glass demon or a mythpunk punk rocker. Think Sid Vicious with glowing sigils and a crown of crystal formations growing from his head like horns.

The weather’s definitely getting a bit cooler here, too. This week was light jacket weather for the first time this season. It’s actually a bit late coming, but reasons, right?

That's why I broke out my Zombie vs Shark hoodie and my jeans ages ago. But a few times it's yo-yo'd between shorts weather and jeans weather. I hope it cools off and stays there. I was sick of summer shortly before it officially started!

And even if I did plan on showing them Cannibal Holocaust, which by virtue of its unsimulated violence against animals it isn't, I wouldn't show it to high-schoolers, much less middle schoolers. I was going to show Friday the 13th since this Friday is the 13th.

It is interesting to me that you draw a line at unsimulated violence against animals.

I have never seen Cannibal Holocaust, but my understanding is that the on-screen animal killing is quick, and on-par with normal animal slaughter practices.

Not that I'm aware, but then again I haven't seen Betty's kids in a while, and Paulina's always got school and dance cheer.

And the line I draw is based on their ages and the themes of the film along with its content. For example, I won't show them Return of the Living Dead 1 or 3 anytime soon, though the second one toned down the gore and nudity while upping the dark comedy, thus making it more in line with what we'd consider today hard PG-13 with minimal edits.

It's also worth noting that the animal violence in Cannibal Holocaust was later condemned by its director.

People are weird about killing animals.

"At Christmas my family and I gather around a baked chunk of dead pig that was killed with a captive bolt to the brain."

"Filming the death of a pig shot in the head at point-blank range is condemnable."

I think it's also kind of weird that Deodato later condemned it, though I think maybe he just regretted it because that's the aspect of the film that overshadowed the rest of it.

Also, I largely agree with you. People are too disconnected now from their food. I am not a vegetarian, but I think it’s important for people to understand that, for them to eat meat, an animal had to die. I don’t expect people to give up meat entirely, but it may make them rethink their habits a bit. (Also, I think we’d eat more goose meat because, seriously, geese are a**holes.)

Killing animals for food or to control the population is something I can understand. But in Cannibal Holocaust, it's just for a movie.
