Just watch Troll 2 31 times.

Much less hassle.

It is. I love that movie, and I hope you enjoy it.

Just watch the first one and the third one, which doesn’t feature Michael Myers and isn’t related to the others at all. You can skip all the rest.

Based on what you guys have said I will definitely try out Halloween III. My biggest issue with the original Halloween is that nothing really surprised me, and I was never actually scared. It's also a bit annoying watching a movie with all of these annoying teen characters. I know that's just a horror movie thing, but it makes you not really invested in anyone's survival. I kind of like when movies take the usual dumb teen (or young college students), horror movie formula and turn it on its head somehow like Cabin in the Woods did, or just kind of revel in the silliness of the situation like the first Dead Snow movie did. That's actually a good seque, as I just finished Tucker and Dale vs Evil and it kind of does just that.

This movie made me bust out laughing a few times. It's really fun. It takes some horror movie tropes and expectations and subverts them in hilarious ways. It feels like a deconstruction of some typical horror elements you see in movies. At one point in the movie I thought, "they can take this in so many different directions" and I couldn't wait to see how everything played out.

There's also some underlying themes regarding lack of communication and misjudging people on appearances and stereotypes. So there's just a little bit of depth and smartness to this movie, but it's largely just a silly film that's trying to make you laugh. The comedy is almost cartoonish at times, which I loved, but violent too...kind of like an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon LOL

There's a few nods to the Evil Dead movies here too which I liked.

Sometimes I almost think I enjoy horror comedies more than horror movies. I like seeing this type of stuff played with in funny ways. I always loved how Evil Dead 2 straddled the line between horror and comedy, and did both so well.

If they can maintain this level of quality, I'd enjoy a sequel to this. Even as I was watching, I kept thinking, "They just HAVE to do another one"

To be fair to Halloween, it was (along with Black Christmas) one of the first good slasher films. It has been imitated so many times at this point that it has lost some of its ability to scare and shock. Still very solid, though.

Halloween III is just bonkers, though, and it definitely has not been imitated much.

I also adore horror-comedies, and I’ve found that some of the very best come from New Zealand…the beautiful land of horror-comedies! Some I recommend are:

Brain Dead/Dead Alive - An early Peter Jackson film with insanely over the top gore effects.

Deathgasm - A heavy metal band rocks so hard that they accidentally summon a demon.

Housebound - A young (very bad) woman is placed on house arrest in a haunted house an takes absolutely no sh*t from ghosts.

What We So in the Shadows - A classic that inspired the hit television show.

Winter's Tale is goddamn NUTS. I have no idea how a film with a $60 million budget was this insane. It's a very shmaltzy romance, which people probably made fun of, but I assume the plot got overlooked because of that. It's directed by the guy who wrote the scripts for the DaVinci Code movies, and it makes them look normal. I'll leave most of it as a surprise, but I'll say one thing that you find out early on, but I'll add it as a spoiler just in case

Winter's Tale is nuts, but that's about the best thing I could say about it, except maybe that it was pretty wild that Akiva Goldsman managed to get it funded. The studios must have had a LOT of faith in him at the time.

Winter's Tale is based on a well-received book that's been in print since the early 80s, so it's not that strange that it got okayed with a decently sized budget. That said, Akiva Goldsman is a menace. His Oscar win for A Beautiful Mind was a minor atrocity and nothing good can come from him both writing and directing a movie.

So I watched Housebound, it's was pretty good. This is a movie that I feel like I can't say too much more about beyond what prfsnl_gmr said for spoiler reasons, but it's a fun watch and has a good story. It's a horror comedy that maintains a good balance between the two as the movie does maintain a serious tone at times and has some suspenseful moments. The comedy itself is never over the top like Evil Dead 2 or Tucker and Dale versus Evil. Nevertheless, it got a good laugh out of me a few times.

The characters are all great in this and all pretty memorable. They all made me want to keep watching. Morgana O'Reilly stands out the most as the star of the movie, but she's surrounded by a great supporting cast.

Pretty impressive for a first movie from a director. I had always been curious about the movie M3GAN. Now that I know it's from the director who did Housebound, I might check it out.

Last night before bed I popped in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I found it charming and exciting.

Also, I effin' LOVED pre-Wandavision Kathryn Hahn's genderbent Doc Ock. Dr. Olivia "Liv" Octavius reminded me of a cross between Miss Frizzle and Idina Menzel

Today while doing laundry, I decided to load up the Arrow streaming app and watch Microwave Massacre.

In this darkly comedic drek, an overweight, middle-aged man grows tired of his wife's strange culinary experiments (including what looks like a large-ish crab between two dinner plate-sized kaiser rolls) and in a fit of drunken anger brutally beats her to death and stuffs her cut-up corpse in the fridge in the garage. But one night, he accidentally eats what he thinks is one of her bizarre creations... only to discover it was her severed hand! Now, with a taste for human flesh, which he finds infinitely more appealing than her strange dishes, he slowly carves his way through a slew of women to feed his ghoulish appetites.

Crazily enough, the male lead is played by Jackie Vernon, aka the voice of Frosty the Snowman in the old Rankin-Bass Christmas specials.
