Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Damn. As much as Nintendo has built and kept the lore, this seems wrong. I'm all for making Toad into a less grating and more likeable character, but to replace the Mario we all grew up with makes me sad. I don't think the tears of an old-timer will change their minds, but I hope they don't choose to keep Chris Pratt, or bring in some other E! True Hollywood Celeb.

Mortal Monday was 30 years ago today. Damn I'm old.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Any of y'all play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk yet? It's pretty decent, not amazing but I'm definitely happy with it. Plays slightly different from JSR and I can't decide if I like that, but the camera controls are 100000x better.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I haven't played Bomb Rush Cyberfunk yet, but I really want to try it out. I'm a big fan of the first Jet Set Radio game on the Dreamcast, and was definitely curious about Bomb Rush when my friend sent a trailer to me a while back.
Just curious, which platform did you check it out on?

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has been on my to do list. I just finished Sea of Stars and am now playing GrimGrimoire OnceMore. I may play it next. From what I have seen of the game it seems VERY faithful to Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future. I'm trying really hard to stick to one game at a time these days so I have time for other things.

Jesus Christ dude. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has so much goddamn dialog and cutscenes. I just want to do fucking tricks and spray paint shit. God, why do so many modern games think they have to focus so much on damn narratives? I miss when games were just about the gameplay. If I want a massive story I'll go play a damn rpg. God.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Long cut scenes should be frowned upon in videogames world. If i want to see, I will watch a movie. Even worse, a lot of the cut scenes are none sense I couldn't care less about.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The game also has REALLY ugly character designs.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk does manage to copy the formula of the Jet Grind Radio games, but it's less pretty, the music isn't as good, and the story sucks.

None of the charm, fun, and energy of Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio future are in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I'll give some examples. Check out the awesome title screens (with their accompanying awesome music) from the Jet Set games

Now check out this dull as fuck title screen from Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkw00EM38HU
Right off the bat the game just feels more dull than its predecessors before you've even start playing. Then there's the character designs. Check out these awesome ones that we know and love

Now look at this ugly crap

and don't even get me started on how dull the stages feel in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk compared to the games that inspired it.
That fun silliness that the Jet Set games had, also not in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. The police are so dull compared to the fun cops in the Jet Set games.
The story is this bizarre tale of a guy getting decapitated and trying to figure who he is now that he has a new robot head. This sounds like the setup for a wacky, silly, story, but Bomb Rush just maintains this serious vibe and it's just weird.
Everything about Bomb Rush Cyberfunk just feels like a cheap copy of better games. I put a few hours into it and then just stopped caring.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My last post on this shit game
The shitty boss fights and combat, oh God. The first boss fight is just so stupidly designed don't even get me started. Then later on you encounter this scenario...
There's a moment in the game where you get a cutscene of your crew getting shot at by some snipers. One of the characters says, "Let's bounce" before running away. During this cutscene you also see a closed off area open up. Your natural inclination once you regain control of your character and immediately see crosshairs beneath your feet, is to run like mad (like you always do when you see the deadly serious, psychotic murder cops in this game) and head over to the new area that's opened up for you.
After skating around for several minutes unable to go anywhere and taking several cheap sniper shots, I finally said, "fuck it" and went online to see what the fuck I was supposed to do here as I was done wasting time out of my day on this stupid part of the game. Turns out, this is a boss fight...something that the brain dead developers don't signal to the player in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. In fact, I found one or two posts from other people online asking for help in this part because they also had no idea what they were supposed to be doing. You have to find one specific sniper (there's more than one of them firing at you) and attack that person in order to trigger a cutscene to make progress.
Got I hate modern game developers, not a lick of common sense. So...fucking...stupid.
Anyway, this game sucks and we STILL have no true successor to the Jet Grind Radio games. Some revivals work great. The Messenger for fans of 8-bit Ninja Gaiden. Blazing Chrome for Contra fans. Infernax for the five people who actually liked Castlevania II (I kid, I kid). These games understood what made those classics great, while in the case of Infernax and The Messenger also added new things to make the games feel fresh and modern. Blazing Chrome doesn't really add to the Contra formula in any way but at least understands what made those games great. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk does NOTHING to differentiate itself from its influences and also doesn't even understand all of the little things that made Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future great in the first place.
