Good point

@MrPopo

With a 50" plasma it's awesome rotation or not.

I can recommend these two monitors:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824001317

and this swivel:

This seems like a very good option to me, do you know if either of the monitors supports 4:3?

I recently bought a new flatscreen TV and it would be great if someone could recomend a wall mount that can be rotated for playing shmups. Been looking everywhere but each store I enter thinks I´m crazy for wanting to turn my TV sideways.. Would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction. (sorry for my spelling english is not my main language)

I gotta tell you, it is a pain to try and find. I've managed to find exactly ONE mount that would allow for TATE rotation. Though the one I found was a freestanding mount (can't wall mount in my apartment) so you might also be able to find wall mounts. The other thing that can be a problem is that you would want to find one where it is relatively easy to switch from horizontal to vertical. The one I found uses a locking screw in the back, so rotating it is not easy. Plus, the mount plus stand that can support a 50" was about $800 total.

I thought I'd found one in the latest Micro Center ad. Was on sale for $179, floor standing with one shelf. I thought I could leave the extra shelf off and see about substituting something heavy duty that rotated for the tilt bit I'd never use. But it turns out the vertical bars that mount to the TV just kind of hung on the horizontal bars. They weren't bolted, so it would just slide off if turned.

I was bummed as it wasn't worth it anymore if I was going to end up tossing everything but the vertical pole and the feet. It did give me an idea though, I have an aluminum communication rack mount that's pretty sturdy and just taking up space. If I could mount rotation hardware and some legs on it... *wrings hands evilly*

I don't understand why the swivel mounts are so expensive. 50 bucks? Isn't it just a piece of metal, plastic and some engineering? When the monitors are around 200 or so, asking 1/4 of that just for a spiffy swivel puts me off a bit. What am I missing that justifies the price tag?

yeah, I think my next step is to have someone build me a wall mount, from your experience it will probably be cheaper then buying it in a store. 800$ is just crazy  . luckely my new screen is only 32"

actually I just found this when looking throuh the links in this topic

90° swivel must be the thing I'm looking for right? Or am I missing something?

Nope, swivel is not the same as rotate. Notice how it lists a roll of 6 degrees? If you look at the manufactuerer's product page it also states that the rotation is 6 degress to ensure it's level after installation.

The $800 also is a bit misleading. About $500 of that is the stand that lets me have it sit up to 72" off the ground.

Here's the company that does the mount I've looked at: http://www.premiermounts.com/product.asp?PartId=1481

I'm not sure how well a full wall mount would work for shmup rotation, as you'd have to deal with the two locking screws each time, not to mention the cords off the back of the TV. You'd probably be better off with one of the ones for a stand (http://www.premiermounts.com/product.asp?PartId=1452), but the stands are expensive.

I could probably mate that to the rack I have, but damn that's still expensive and I'd still need to add legs to the rack.

I just need a sawzall, a welder, and a trip to the junkyard to hack a hub off a car. If it can hold up 1/4 of a car, it can hold my TV,right?

^^If you're going that far just build a rotating CRT cradle.

Which I've actually been thinking of building... put a giant vault wheel on the side to rotate that shit. Look at it spin!
