What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
I just smoke a blunt lol. I drive as a field tech daily so I hate nights i cant sleep. If it's to bad I just call in, got plenty of sick days. Nodded off a few times in the past and actually had to pull over and sleep in a parking lot once. Luckily insomnia hasn't come up in awhile, but I ain't taking any chances like in the past.

My insomnia has been absolutely killing me lately, damn near felt like I was in the machinist at one point. Weed usually helps too but my tolerance has been getting horrible. Sleeping on a guest bed right now too isn't helping, and Texas is thirty million degrees right now.

Yeah, room temperature definitely affects your ability to sleep (good). If you Google what the best temp for sleep is, you'll find conflicting answers or ranges that don't help much. I prefer 68-70 F myself. In the winter, I'll let my room get cold overnight. I'll wake up to 62-65 F, which is a tad too cold for my liking, but I find I sleep good so I don't mind.
Take a break from weed and drink for a while instead. Then when your tolerance for alcohol is going up, switch back.SamuraiMegas wrote:Weed usually helps too but my tolerance has been getting horrible.

No caffeine after noon; turn off your screens; turn down the temperature; take a shower; turn down the lights; and read until you start to drift off. Also, don’t keep your phone - or any screen or electronics - in your bedroom if you can help it.

I actually don't drink caffeine and unfortunately the heat situation is just from the HVAC not being able to keep up with it being 95+ 24 hrs a day in a big house.
Honestly I have been kinda doing that, switching with the drinking and smoking. Have to taper down a little at a time, though with my job it's almost encouraged to smoke weed all the time since I'm in smoke shops literally all day. Whenever my insomnia is absolutely horrible I just drink a couple shots of whiskey. I don't drink very often so it usually gets me asleep quick.

Yeah, I just got back home to Atlanta, but the temperature registered 110 while I was out near Austin on a job this weekend. That is the worst heat I have ever felt. Even the wind was like a hot air dryer blasting you in the face.

It's honestly taking a toll on me in a few ways. It might seem dumb but I haven't been able to dress in nicer outfits lately because I'll just end up ruining them with sweat/it's too hot to wear anyways. Looking good makes me feel good. I've got a few pairs of nice shorts but I just feel shlubby lately.

Try Melatonin? My bro got it for his kid who fought against sleep despite being tired and it erupted into screaming matches often. Without it, bedtime and mornings were terrible for them. Now half my family uses it occasionally. Doesn't seem to have side effects. I've never tried it, but it really works for them.

I tried melatonin and it didn't have much of an effect.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
The key to melatonin is to take a low dose and ALSO practice good sleep hygiene. Give yourself an internet/screen buffer before bed. Do a mindfulness or breathing exercise. If you read don’t read something that’s too exciting. If it’s boring you won’t want to read at all, but if it’s too compelling it will keep you up. If I did all these things I would sleep better. Turns out some bad habits are hard to break.
