Sliders , E1/Pilot.
I vaguely remember this show from when I was a kid. It used to air on a local channel here and I thought it was some old obscure show. It appears to be concurrent of the time and pretty popular with a cult following. The idea of the show is completely genius for a TV series.
So far its everything I expected it to be although I heard later on, the quality of the show highly deteriorates .
So what have you guys been watching lately?

I loved this show when it first started. The first two seasons were great, but it really tanked in the third season very abruptly and very significantly. I think one of the co-creators left and they brought in new writers and it ceased to be a cool sci-fi "what if" program and became a monster of the week program. John Rhys-Davies was right to leave as early in the third season as he could.RCBH928 wrote:Sliders , E1/Pilot.

*EDIT -- Changed redundant "suddenly" to "significantly," which is what I meant to type in the first place.

Very slowly working through Murder She Wrote on Peacock. It's perfect evening watching because we can choose just how much attention to pay, and wow, some YOUNG actors. It's kind of hilarious to see those baby faces of Courtney Cox, Billy Zane, and George Clooney. And also the horrible southern accents they put on for relevant episodes. The show is a bit of a mess, but it's a lot of fun to watch and not care a lick about.

Just watched the season three two-part premiere a few nights ago. I'm currently rewatching the series.

Watched two episodes of ER. Very well made and could see how back in 1994 it would be interesting to look at events of an ER room. Works pretty good for a tv show, albeit I am not sure how they could keep it interesting for 15 seasons. I would definitely be waiting for it week to week in the mid-90s to air.
Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
Interesting fact about ER, it was created by Michael Crichton. Originally, Chrichton intended the pilot to be a movie. And after the movie Jurassic Park, Chrichton and Spielberg were going to make said ER movie, but ultimately turned it into the TV show.
ER is one of those shows where the early and later seasons aren't bad at all, but the middle seasons are very much the best.
George Clooney and Noah Wyle had a cameo as doctors in an episode of Friends.

The Blacklist . So far so good. Obviously the writers are stealing(in fact mimicking) ideas from Silence of the Lambs with a mix of the tv show 24. It has this very annoying and dumb thing where the characters are supposedly to be metaphysically smart by being able to tell a person's past and predict accurately his future just by looking at the way he wears his neck tie but I will give it a chance...
I never heard of a show that its best parts is the middle part. Usually its ascending or descending in quality and there is constant also.Ziggy587 wrote: ER is one of those shows where the early and later seasons aren't bad at all, but the middle seasons are very much the best.
Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
This is actually not uncommon in TV series, especially ones that run more than a couple seasons. The first season or two of a series can be rocky as the actors, writers and showrunner(s) get up to speed on the premise and characters and can suffer from inconsistent characterizations, plot and character hooks that just vanish never to return, etc... Once the actors and cast have some experience with their characters, writer output, and routines under their belt they can really get on with the business of inhabiting their world more comfortably. The real meat and potatoes storylines and character arcs usually occur in the middle of a series, because everyone is more willing to engage. Meanwhile, the later seasons of a series can sometimes end up being really messy. There may have been pay disputes on renewals of new seasons, there may be fluctuating viewership leading to rumors of cancellation, stressing out actors and causing writers to have to implement backup plans to resolve important stories and character hooks and abandon ones which won't fit if things get cut short...RCBH928 wrote:I never heard of a show that its best parts is the middle part. Beginnings and endings are hard. There's a lot of opportunity but a lot of challenges as well. Middles are hard for very different reasons. Middles can be open-ended, leading to meandering writing, but they can also be rich ground for exploring characters in greater depth and telling longer or even quite different stories.

I recently finished watching the original Macross series with a friend! She suggested that I try doing a write up for it, though I don't usually do that for TV shows or movies, but I took a crack at it anyway. This was the result of my labors, all 4000-ish words of it ^^;
