They Cloned Tyrone
This is a really fun blaxploitation-inspired dystopian sci-fi film that borrows a lot of themes from They Live. It has an awesome soundtrack; is equally funny and spooky; and is just a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
What was the last movie you've seen?

I've been seeing this movie pop up in places, but had no idea what it was about. I think I'll check it out.prfsnl_gmr wrote:They Cloned Tyrone

I just finished watching the following:
Renfield

I remember seeing commercials for this on tv and wrote it off as a stupid movie I didn't need to see. Oh, what a fool I was. How could I not see the GENIUS of Nic fucking Cage as Dracula!? My god, this movie is fun from the very first scene all the way to the end credits. Cage hams it up perfectly and delivers fantastic lines like, "I am the dark poetry in the hearts of all mankind". In my mind I heard someone responding, "Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!"
I'm sure everyone got that reference. Anyway, as awesome as Nic Cage is in this, it's really Nicholas Hoult that carries this movie. He's fantastic. Ben Schwartz is pretty awesome too.
The writing in this is fun and hilarious. So many great jokes and fun lines and the actors really make all of this great material work. There's also a healthy dose of action and gore, which I didn't expect as I sort of thought this would be just a comedy film. The violence is glorious and the comedy comes through in these scenes as well. Do you remember the awesome fight scene in The World's End? The fights have that same fun energy (with similarly awesome music), but much bloodier and gorier.
I watched this alone, but I'd recommend seeing it with friends. Moves like this and Violent Night are probably even more fun when watching them in a group. Oh, and fun fact, this movie was written by Robert Kirkman.

Watched the Super Mario Bros. Movie on Peacock the other night too and enjoyed it. I was aware Donkey Kong was in the movie, but didn't realize how prominent of a role the character had. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a fun time watching it. I especially enjoyed spotting easter eggs that refer to other Nintendo games.marurun wrote: Fine movie for kids and Mario-fan adults who don’t take the property WAY too seriously. Not actually a GOOD movie in any way, but the primary audience, kids, aren’t too picky.
Also, that blue star Lumalee had some hilarious and dark lines. I was surprised that type of humor was in the movie, but appreciated it. I hadn't played the Mario Galaxy games, so I wasn't familiar with the character beforehand, but I guess that character's personality in the game is very different.

Battle Beyond the Stars

So I generally love all things 80s, and I've heard some good things about this movie from a certain youtube channel that usually has pretty good movie recommendations. I have to say though, this movie honestly did nothing for me. It has a very diverse and weird cast of characters, but I felt no emotional connection to any of them because none of them are developed well enough for you to give a damn. The movie just quickly goes from introducing one character to quickly introducing another character. You don't get enough time with any of them to feel any connection. The protagonist in particular is just super annoying, and the AI on his ship is not cool like Edi from Mass Effect, Aya from Green Lantern the Animated Series, or even Cortana from Halo. She's just cheesy and annoying. After the movie is done introducing all of these characters one after another, it just immediately heads into this big battle that is basically the movie's climax. This leads to my next problem with this movie...
There's a lot of space combat in this movie, but it's all done very poorly making me think they just didn't have the budget for this. Every battle is just the movie showing you the ships firing lasers at something, then showing you the pilots inside the ships, then showing you the ships firing at something, then showing you the pilots inside the ships, then showing you the ships firing at something, then showing you the pilots inside the ship, over and over and over and over and over and over and OVER and OVER and OVER again...until finally one of the ships blows up. It's so repetitive. You don't see any actual dogfighting at all and it feels like the ships aren't actually doing any maneuvers at all. It's like they're literally just flying straight towards each other like two cars playing chicken while firing lasers at each other. It's awful.
As the battle goes on, people will die, and you won't care. I certainly didn't. This movie sucks. It has no redeeming value whatsoever. It's low budget so everything looks like shit. I could overlook that if other elements of the movie worked but the story sucks, the characters suck, and the action is terrible. Don't waste your time.
EDIT: One other thing, the different characters are all recruited to defend this planet from a big attack from a space tyrant. However, they are all recruited way too easily and the reasoning some of them have for taking part in something so dangerous is so lame. One group of aliens literally agrees to join just because they're bored. Seriously? Let me go risk my life protecting some planet I know nothing about and have no connection to from a galactic tyrant because...I'm bored?

It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I remember Seven Samurai being much better than this movie is.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Does that space ship have giant space tits on the bottom? WTF?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I would say yes, but that would undercut Sybil Danning's role in the film.marurun wrote:Does that space ship have giant space tits on the bottom? WTF?
