Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
That's the thing about media; we forget all the ones that were mediocre and bad as time moves on and only remember the good ones, thus giving us a skewed perspective. And it's not a new phenomenon; for every Beethoven and Homer there were a bunch of meh composers and authors who were not remembered by posterity.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Honestly, going through failed blockbusters of the 80s and 90s is fun just for that very reason.
I am going through wii stuff quite aggressively now, because it's always nice to see if there'll be a resurgence of something. I'd honestly say that Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, should be considered legendary wii games eventually.

This my philosophy.Ziggy587 wrote:I don't know. I feel like the world's creativity is stagnating, in all forms of art and entertainment.
Pre internet: People were not living in a "global village" , there was more separation so to bring attention they attempted to do something better or new to gain fame and word of mouth advertising. More risks and edgey material.
Post-Internet: Investors just want to print money so they only repeat the true and tested so you do get like COD 22nd sequel and a remake of a remaster that was a remake of a previous game. By this point I can hardly tell 3D FPS apart, they are all 3D FPS to me.
Good news: Due to ease of publishing, availability of resources, and crowd funding the "indie" scene is thriving if you know where to look.
Yup this is true, what is also true is that good material is still getting published people are just not paying attention to it. In 20 years time they will probably look back and thing the 2020's had seriously good stuff. But if you have specific taste to things, different eras have different "renaissance" of things , for example if you are into Point and Click games the current era is probably not your favorite.MrPopo wrote:That's the thing about media; we forget all the ones that were mediocre and bad as time moves on and only remember the good ones, thus giving us a skewed perspective. Is anyone on the forum planning to attend the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo? Thinking of finally going out to it and just wondering if any RacketBoy members might be in attendance.
Also, any pointers in general for attending a convention like that? I've never been!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My best suggestion would be to create a list and do a budget.
When I go to Conventions, I get stuck in either two parties. You either are a deer in head lights and don't know which game to buy or you want them all so you just buy everything that you want. I love to create a shopping list, so I can hunt for what I am looking for. It drives a nice balance between buying nothing and buying everything.
Also, for the same reasons, create some sort of budget. It is easy to break that budget especially if the Vendors accept like mobile payments. But, Cash is the best currency to bring and that can help in creating how much you want to spend. Expect to see games you have never seen before, but they will also be a bit higher than you might expect. Some dealers are willing to haggle, especially the later in the show it gets, so it never hurts to shave off like five or ten bucks here and there.

That looks like Mighty Bomb Jack's head on small Mario's body, with a palette swap.

Thanks for the tips, Markies! I limit myself in the same way when going out to game stores, so I don't think that'd be a problem. However, a family thing that was supposed to happen this weekend got pushed back to next weekend. Because of the traveling involved for that, I might miss the convention after all.

You are correct, thanks Limewater!
