Overpriced Ebay Shipping!

Post by Boaradoor »

I was looking over at eBay for a 72 pin NES connector. I found on priced at $6.79, So I thought that was a good deal compared to the other ones. I scrolled down and shipping was $5.95! I was outraged at how much people try to charge for shipping a small piece of metal. I could understand even $3, for things such as driving to the post office, and the envelope. So I decided better to go with the $8.49 with free shipping... :)

Yeah people are funny. like my genesis av cable someone complained about the shipping on. I was charging $5 shipping and started the auction at .99. So I changed it to 8.99 with free shipping. Got bought up and I made $2 more than I would have if I hadnt changed it I bet.

Good way to make money I guess!
Some people really do take it to far...
That's why Half.com is good because it has a set price on shipping for something! :D

People used to jack up the shipping prices to counteract all the ebay fees. However, since they implemented the
1-5 star rating system (one of which is "was shipping costs reasonable,) you see a lot more things with true shipping value or free shipping.

Basically if any of your seller ratings fall below an average of 4.1 stars, they suspend your selling privileges for x amount of days.

It has always been a problem, you need to read the description for any item and figure out what you are willing to pay TOTAL. Add the shipping to the bid price. Unfortunately a lot of people dont do this then complain about shipping costs.

I think the real problem is the over priced ebay fees! I sell a few things here and there, but they take an average of 20-25% after you factor in the listing fee, final price fee, other associated listing charges (extra pics, Buy It Now, etc.), and then the shameless paypal service charge (because paypal is owned by ebay, and from what I've seen lately, require that everyone use paypal).
NES | SNES | Genesis | PSOne | Saturn | N64 | Dreamcast | Gamecube | XBox | PS2 Phat w/HDLoader | PS3 Slim| Wii
GBA SP | PSP-1000 | WiFi-iPad 16GB(Is this a game system?) | Modded PS1 | PS Vita 3G

Any unfortunately until there is an real alternitive to both (google checkout is already there for paypal, never used it but cant imagine it is worse) the fees will keep going up and people will keep paying them. I hate ebay, but it is unfortunately the only place when you need something odd and cant find it anywhere else. Sure for games there is chasethechuckwagon, but there arent enough listings there, and really who would list something there when you can get the huge selling price on ebay.

I hate the 5 star rating deal. I don't think its fair for most people. "Was shipping cost reasonable" is an opinion. I might charge $5 for something small and light because I want to package it good, and some one might give me 1 star just because they're an idiot.
