I came to talk about ham sausage, and needed to read through three pages of tape drama. I keep 18 types of tape around and none are Duck Tape. Gaff tape is so expensive, but it usually the right tape in most situations. Unless your Gaffer Tape is really budget brand, it's designed to not take paint off. I've only had one brand leave residue after 2 years of holding, and now keep two better brands. I do love that there is such a range of adhesive tapes for every application. Did you know that Duck Tape is the original name? 3M was contracted to make a plastic adhesive tape for the US army to wrap around their ammo cases that could withstand submersion - Duck Tape comes out dry. It's so fucking horrible about doing anything else but sometimes stick if the temperature and humidity is agreeable. It's a plague because it should never be aged or removed and will fail shortly after being applied, but everyone who uses it overapplies it and just wrecked everything they applied it to. Red Green is an asshole- I'd kick him right in the nuts if he even mentioned Duck Tape. Use the proper adhesive or you're gonna have a bad time.

Sausages are curing well.

Yeah, I love when people do multiple layers of tape around something because the adhesion of the first layer wasn't enough. As if the additional layers of tape add more adhesion to the FIRST layer! The Duck Tape episode of Myth Busters was entertaining though.

I've become disenchanted with black electrical tape. It definitely has its uses, but like Duck Tape, it's another tape that people tend to overuse. It leaves just about the worst tape residue when removed. Which is bad enough when you're rewiring building wiring. But people tend to overuse it in cars, for example on radio or alarm/auto start installs. And in that case, it leaves an absolute gooey mess behind that's really annoying to deal with. I use to often use it to insulate the joining of two wires. But after a few times of taking apart my own stuff years later and dealing with the gooey mess, I try and use heat shrink tubing more often now. You can cut heat shrink tubing with a razor if you need to redo something. But taking black tape off years later, it's pretty much never worth it. It's easier just to cut the wire out and add a new one back in than it is to deal with the residue from the tape. Also, while black tape does insulate, I've gotten zapped with 120v through black tape before. Some people will warp 2-3 layers around an outlet or switch to insulate the side screws, but as I've learned you can still get zapped if you touch it. So while I'll still use it these days, I tend to use it sparingly now.

The only times I've seen grips use e-tape is for taping handles of chain vise grips when they're in use and for taping wounds shut.

As for the Gaff pulling paint, it's not that the tape is cheap, it's that the paint is! Film sets are generally cheaply made and only meant to last for the length of production, so things like the paint aren't high quality. And we don't use it on locations because location owners love to nickel and dime productions about potential damage, so leaving up a piece of tape that they might find tough to remove is generally asking for trouble.a

Years ago a buddy of mine was attending NYIT. He joined some sort of talent club. They were putting on a fashion show, but decided to break it up with musical acts. Well, my friend and I were in a band at the time, so we ended up being one of those musical acts. It was held in an NYIT gymnasium. We had some heavy duty extension chords that ran off the stage. Someone (not any of us) decided to use masking tape to fix the extension chords to the floor behind the stage. I guess to avoid a tripping hazard. The show ended up being a shit show because the guy running it was an idiot. Well a few days later my friend let me know that he got some shit over the masking tape leaving a sticky mess on the gym floor LOL. But I mean, who cares? It's a gym floor. Just spray some Goo Gone or whatever on it and it'll wipe right off. Cleaning my extension chords was the bigger pain in the ass, IMO. I've had a few times that someone decided to put masking tape on my extension chords. It's always a pain in the ass to clean off.

Quality of the paint aside, putting tape on a surface that was freshly painted is always asking for trouble. Paint can be dry but not yet cured, so you can tape it but then pull off paint when you go to remove the tape. Even if the paint was high quality, wont matter if it isn't cured.

Wait, were your instruments driven by power chords or power cords? I know music has power, but damn!

We use aluminum and steel rails for building things, depending on the need. Since it's all temporary, we don't need the greatness of iron, though that's ok; our boilermaker union bros can have first crack if they want.
