What changed?
Gaff takes off paint too easily. Paper tape does most of what we need it to do without generally damaging what is beneath. If we need gaff, we already don't care about the paint job.

So then the job is now taper, instead of gaffer?

Well then it makes sense you wouldn't use gaff.

My wife has changed colors so much in every room of our house I just quit using tape. By the time I tape off everything, the cut in is already done. All about using a good brush for straight lines and I guess alot of practice lol.

Yeah, a pro isn't going to waste time and money taping when they can cut (and pros can cut very fast). Frog tape is more for when you need an actual tape line, like if you're doing alternating vertical stripes, a different top and bottom color, etc. But cheating with tape definitely comes in handy when your cut sucks, like mine does. Still, I'll use blue and purple (low tack) more often than not. Frog Tape is great, but it isn't cheap. So it's usually reserved for when you need a pin straight line that isn't in a corner or up against trim or something.

This is tape talk I can use! It's informational and educational! Unlike that other tape talk...

During the 2007 housing crash, boss man had some rentals to fix up to keep us employed. Just wouldn't allow us to use tape ,"you'll always be able to see the lines". Far from being a pro, just had to learn. He was dick though.

That's bullshit. You won't always see the lines. Sounds like the dude was just shit at using tape. And I'm shit at painting, which is why I use tape.

I mean, tape is expensive if that's how you're using it. It's fine when it's the odd time your painting a room in your own house, but pro painters aren't using tape when they can cut. Tape means more money and more time (which is money). But like anything else, I know some pro painters that can cut amazingly straight and fast, but they can't tape for shit. Me, I can't cut for beans (I do in my own home, but it takes me forever and a day for a nice clean line) but I can tape very well and very fast. Of course, I never practice my cut. And I've taped/masked every window in a new construction home many times, so perhaps that's where my tape speed came from. Where as the pro painters have cut the ceiling and/or base moldings in a new construction home many times, and that's where their speed came from.

But yeah, if a "pro" painter needed tape to cut the ceiling, I don't think they would make it to the end of the first day. Some pro painters I know have told me stories about cheap ass former employers. Like one guy that wouldn't let you use a tray, you just had to dunk your roller in the 5 gallon bucket LOL.
