I have an opportunity to pick up a PAL/NTSC TV off of Craigslist for cheap. All my consoles are NTSC, but most NTSC consoles will play PAL games and output at 50hz, right? I can handle region modding in most cases if necessary.
So, I'm wondering what notable games have an English release in PAL only. I don't have any current gen consoles, but recommendations for just about any other system would be welcome.
PAL only games?
PAL only games?

Re: PAL only games?
Actually, most consoles that were region locked still can't play PAL games without some kind of adapter. For my Nintendo 64, I've got an Passport Plus III to let me play PAL games(and NTSC-J games since I'm too lazy to remove the tabs), which requires a boot cart(Mario 64 works the best). Here's a couple games you can get in the PAL regions:
Terranigma(SNES)
Rakuga Kids(N64)
The Firemen(SNES)
Asterix(SNES)
Asterix & Obelisk(SNES)
Hebereke's Popoon(SNES)
Taz Express(N64)
There were also some Dragon Ball Z games released in France and Spain for the SNES, if you're interested. They're mostly fighting games. And there are lots of soccer games or other sports games, as well as well as PAL versions of games that came out in the states that might be worth checking out, like Probotector.

Hm, doesn't look too promising then, if I have to buy a bunch of PAL consoles too.

Re: PAL only games?
Well, like I was saying, there are converters that will usually allow you to play both NTSC-J games as well as PAL games with no need to modify, so if you're hesitant to snap the plastic tabs in your SNES to play some Japan-only games, get the converter and you can get some PAL goodness as an added bonus.Hatta wrote:Hm, doesn't look too promising then, if I have to buy a bunch of PAL consoles too.

Question:
Do the PAL games play faster when played through an adapter on an NTSC machine than they do on a PAL machine?

If you're not too fussy you can use a flashcart to play Megadrive and SNES games so you can patch the ROMs however you please. Note however that if a game is optimised for PAL it'll most probably run faster in 60Hz mode. Search the forums at Sega-16.com for more info (or the SNES community equivalent)

Us PAL region gamers [myself included] really got the short end of the stick in the 32B era.
