Yeah, that stuff is great. You can get nice clean lines. Blue painter's tape is the go-to, but it's definitely not for everything. I've become a fan of purple tape, because it's lower adhesion than blue, so it's nice when you're afraid of ripping apart soft drywall which the blue can sometimes do. I'm also a fan of yellow exterior tape, the sun doesn't bake it on like it does blue tape. Anyone that has spent way too long scrapping off baked on blue tape knows exactly why a more expensive exterior tape is worth the extra money!

Nah, black paper tape from Shurtape is what I carry on set, always. We actually don't use much gaff these days unless necessary. Same with E-tape.

Speaking about tapes in various professions ...

When you're alone in a room, you couldn't care less what packing tape you're using. But when someone else is using packing tape around you, you just can't believe how LOUD and startling it is! Thankfully someone had the bright idea to make quiet packing tape. Yeah, that's a thing.

On a non-professional level... I'm really not a fan of "duck tape repairs." Usually it's when someone is incapable of a proper repair, and they just make a mess of tape to hold something together. But I have become a fan of that black Gorilla tape. I've used it a few times to make a "duck tape repair," and if you put a little effort into it, it can look very good. As in, no creasing of the tape. And it's very strong stuff. I once repaired the blown out bottoms of my garbage cans (they're one of those things that I hate having to spend money on) with Gorilla tape and I got a lot more out of them before I finally had to get new ones. And the black tape on a black can blended in seamlessly, you didn't even notice it, unlike the silver Duck Tape that you commonly see in such repairs.
