Played some Video Pinball for a while today. Not the best pinball game I've ever played but it scratches the itch a tad.
Re: Have you played ATARI today!!!
I think Midnight Magic is thought of as the high-water mark for pinball on the 2600.

I'll have to find a copy.

Turmoil is so awesome. Like a flatter 2D Tempest. Just pure early 80s action gaming perfection.
I finally finished (ie: looped once) Popeye on the 2600. Always found this one so much harder than Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr.

It is harder. I would faint if we got an Arcade Archives release, but with the licensing issues, I don’t see that happening. I’ll have to settle for the NES port, though, which is almost arcade perfect.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Turmoil is so awesome. Like a flatter 2D Tempest. Just pure early 80s action gaming perfection.

Some homebrewers are working on a 7800 version of Popeye that looks good.

If you're not on AtariAge, there's a ton of 7800 stuff out and in development. I believe Popeye is done now.Golgo 14 wrote:Some homebrewers are working on a 7800 version of Popeye that looks good.

Personally, I think NES Popeye looks better still, but I'm so thankful for the 7800 and 2600 homebrews out. So many of them blow a bunch of professionally-made games out of the water.
Re: Have you played ATARI today!!!
Nice link. I check AtariAge sometimes, but it's hard to keep up with the projects and the state they are in. It looks like Popeye is going to be available in the store soon, and only the demo is available for downloading and playing on flash carts. I think you're right about the NES version looking better, but it's cool that someone did it anyway.o.pwuaioc wrote: If you're not on AtariAge, there's a ton of 7800 stuff out and in development. I've been meaning to get a 7800 flash cart, but I'm not sure which one is the best to get.

Re: Have you played ATARI today!!!
Today's my 40th birthday (big oof -- and I actually joined this forum on my 28th birthday!)... and I got the Retron 77!
Slick lil clone system. Very tiny; I was able to set it up immediately without rearranging a thing. It's basically Stella in a box. I'll goof off with it more later but I'm liking things so far. Nice way to preserve the original hardware too.
It's sitting next to my RetroFreak which clones my favorite 3rd/4th gen systems.
