Who needs talent when there is autotune

Post by J T »

Ok, I try not to make posts on this forum that have nothing to do with games, but this video is just too good. First, I should say, that I cannot stand the way most pop music today is autotuned. For those that don't know, autotune is a piece of audio software you can use to put an off-pitch singer in pitch. In my opinion, autotune has destroyed popular music... and pop music was already bad. Autotune makes it so that singers can be hired for how sexy and marketable they are, without any regard to how well they can sing. Combine that with some timestretching techniques, sampling, and sequencing and the person doesn't need to be able to sing on key or even have any rhythm.

I love this video because it is evidence that any douchebag out there can be turned into a pop music star with the right producer working for them. Enjoy.

I've always appreciated pop music, for the talent of the producers and engineers.

Lol, every time I see a video like that I just ask myself, "How much time do these people have on their hands?"

PS, I love that guy in the Sham-Wow commercial.

This things do not kill music at all. They are a tool for making better music because it lets you to modify the sound. The problem is that people still give credit to the singers when they use those techniques , hell people doesn't even care if a famous artist does some playback. I don't give the actors in High School Musical any credits at all but some do

Totally agree with General Norris. Ive worked with auto-tune and melodyne many times and theyre just great tools for modifying a singers voice if used correctly. While it does take some of the talent out of a singers instrument, it can be used for many more things. For example the famous 'cher' sound from the song believe. Although i'm not a fan of the song, it IS a cool effect when used correctly. I don't think its any different from a drummer using SoundReplacer or midi.

In my opinion, the only cats that have any business fucking around with Autotone/talkbox/etc are Zapp & Roger and Pete Frampton.

At some point this past year T. Pain was featured on 90% of all charted hip hop tracks. And that is a statistic!

Talk boxes and vocoders are one thing. I don't mind them. Autotune always sounds like crap to me. It's not a tool for making better music. It's a tool for making the voice sound garbled, cheap, bland, and without personality.

Yeah that sort of stuff does have its place. And when it's used well you wouldn't know it.
But then there's the Katie Perrys and Kanye Wests that have mediocre at best singing ability at best whos entire career is made by software.
