I don't remember the ending of Death Note, but I don't think you're wasting your time. It's a thrilling page-turner of a series!
Ushio & Tora (2015) might be your kind of show. It's an adaptation of an early 90s manga (that was previously animated as a kind of lousy OVA series) that follows a boy who accidentally frees a demon sealed beneath his family's shrine. The premise sounds pretty generic, but I thought it was a really good supernatural adventure series.
Good modern anime? And where to watch?

Re: Good modern anime? And where to watch?
An easy +1 on this for me.Note wrote:A modern anime I enjoyed was the first season of Psycho-Pass. It's very influenced by cyberpunk and sci-fi. The basic plot revolves around these scanners located around the city which can detect people's propensity for crime. Based on those results, inspectors have to go out to apprehend certain individuals.
Psycho-Pass is incredibly good. The story pacing is brilliant. Though I didn't find anything about possible influences, I love the Minority Report and Blade Runner vibe of the show. I haven't seen season 3 and season 2 was a little tame compared to season 1, but season 1 is an absolute masterpiece and is highly recommended.

Re: Good modern anime? And where to watch?
I just finished season...3? I'm not sure if I should call it season 2 or 3. Apparently, they took the movie and released it episodically and called it season 2...which I found quite confusing.terrysmithh54 wrote:I honestly just started watching Demon Slayer yesterday and I'm already finished season one. It's such a good anime and I'm absolutely in love with it, so I'm incredibly excited for this!
Anyway, I finished the "Entertainment District Arc", whether that's considered season 2 or 3. I'll try not to get too spoilery for anyone who hasn't seen it
Overall, I enjoyed it. Things got a little over the top and ridiculous at times, and the final battle was a bit drawn out, but that seems the norm for a lot of shonen type anime (Dragonball Super comes to mind). I chose to just enjoy the ride and shut my brain off. I don't know where they are getting the money for this show but MY GOD IN HEAVEN, the last 3 episodes had just AMAZING animation. I felt like I was watching yet another Demon Slayer movie. Just look at this:

cough Goku cough cough
I will also say that I find myself genuinely surprised by how the show can sometimes manage to get me a bit misty eyed during some of it's more poignant moments. You can watch the show just for its crazy action and animation, as well as it's at times brutal violence, but the show also has heart. Also, my god, whoever thought of this is right here is a genius:
