Yeah, seems like the copy with the variant box art goes for a lot nowadays. I'm not into collecting variants, but I find it interesting just knowing about and seeing photos of the less common versions of games that are out there.stickem wrote:Wow checking ebay asking prices of that variant, way out of what I'd pay for a copy, no sold listings show up.

Geez the cover of Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love is actually quite disturbing with all the shadows of women in sexy poses, with him in the background

Re: Games Acquired 2022
April update (a bit late!)
April:
PC Denjin (AKA Air Zonk) PCE
Mizubaku Daibouken (AKA Liquid Kids) PCE
Kaitei Daisensou (AKA In The Hunt) Saturn
Royal Stone: Hirakareshi Toki no Tobira Game Gear
Andro Dunos II 3DS
Aleste Collection: GG Micro Limited Edition Switch
Sackboy: A Big Adventure PS5
Some big purchases last month - Air Zonk is a game I've wanted for a long time, and I got some good prices on Liquid Kids and In The Hunt which can be quite pricy even for the Japanese copies. Royal Stone is a great SRPG on Game Gear with a fan translation - the Japanese library for that system is fantastic. Andro Dunos is one of the last 3DS physical releases, Sackboy is my first PS5 purchase, and Aleste Collection is probably one of the stupidest things I've bought. Not the Switch game, which is great, but the GG Micro edition specifically. The included Game Gear Micro is ridiclously small to the point of impracticality, and the included selection of 8 bit shmups are just ludicrous to play on such a small screen. I love it though

That Game Gear kick keeps on kicking this year huh?Nemoide wrote:Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon S (Game Gear)

All in all I've gotten 97 new games for the year. This is an unsustainable rate of game acquisitions. But also, I'm enjoying having become a big-scale collector! I feel like I have become one with the backlog...
As a fellow GG connoisseur I would love hearing your thoughts on these and other games you acquired for the console this year!
As for the backlog, we learn to respect and fear it. Once upon a time I was down to below 50 on my backloggery. Now I'm barely managing to stay below 400...
Re: Games Acquired 2022
There's a weird issue with the saturn version of in the hunt. If you have controller 1 plugged up on bootup the game gives you a disc read error after the first screen. Drove me crazy for awhile lol. Does that happen with your copy?alienjesus wrote:April update (a bit late!)

I've posted some of them in the games beaten thread! But I'm thinking I might have to make a dedicated Game Gear thread, I love that thing even though I'm playing on my Analogue Pocket.alienjesus wrote:That Game Gear kick keeps on kicking this year huh?Nemoide wrote:Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon S (Game Gear)

I strongly believe the main barrier to enjoying the Game Gear is the hardware itself. The game library is genuinely pretty great but it’s a rough experience to try and play on original hardware. When I got mine modded for a better screen my opinion of the system flipped entirely

Agree completely. I’ve really enjoyed exploring my Game Gear collection on systems other than a Game Gear.alienjesus wrote:I strongly believe the main barrier to enjoying the Game Gear is the hardware itself. Re: Games Acquired 2022
So, a couple of weeks ago, I beat Mike Tyson and finished my Backlog. Obviously, nobody wants to sit around with no new games to play, so it soon came time for me to go game shopping. I wanted to take a few weeks off to enjoy my empty Backlog along with playing some of my older games for a bit. Also, I was at a Board Game Convention all week that I had spent quite a while preparing for.
With everything out of the way and a renewed vigor to play games again, I finally went game shopping. I had created a list of games I wanted to buy for each console. Also, I have several more stores in my area. So, for a little while, please enjoy my shopping extravaganza as I begin the process of rebuilding my Backlog!
Markies' Games Acquired List Of 2022!
1. Baseball Stars (NES)
2. Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA)
3. Crazy Taxi 2 (SDC)
4. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
5. Guitar Hero II (PS2)
6. Jak And Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS2)
7. Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS2)
8. Shadow Hearts (PS2)
9. The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (XBOX)
10. Forza Motorsport (XBOX)
11. Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones (XBOX)
12. Assassin's Creed (PS3)
13. Borderlands - Game Of The Year Edition (PS3)
14. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
15. Wii Sports (Wii)
16. Nintendoland (WiiU)
The game I am most happy about obtaining would be Shadow Hearts. That was the most expensive one by far, but I have wanted that game for so long that I did not mind splurging the extra bucks for that one. I have played Koudelka before, so I am very excited to explore that universe again.
I am also tepidly excited to play Final Fantasy XIII. I love the Final Fantasy series more than any other series, so I am always willing to try them out. However, I have heard both good and bad opinions about that one in particular.
I find it completely funny that my first Wii game is Wii Sports and my first WiiU game is Nintendoland. That seems very fitting.
But, overall, a pretty good first day haul!
